I was looking at the log for my wifi, and today someone connected at 9am, with a computer named "Homework 2575cd"
I disconnected my wifi when i saw this, 2 hours after the fact but wtf... i live in the god damn country... never expected this. i have 2 neighbors in 200 feet of my router, so its either one of them, or someone thats parking out on the road at 9 AM... There was a thread with software to monitor this shit the other day... anyone know anything about the software i should use to monitor this shit? Id like to find more information out on this kid and then go tell his mom and dad. |

Why not just turn on WEP encryption and only allow verified MAC addresses to connect to your wifi router?
|
|
Tell them that he's stealing all your internets... Why not secure your router so that this isn't a problem?
|
|
Go to your router's configuration and use WPA2 and a strong key. Heck, even plain WEP will most likely keep them out.
|
|
Just secure your network - it's easy. Beats getting all bent out of shape over it.
|
|
Okay, but my aircard is broken, please man, I need to get online.

How do I enable the WEP (eta, i know i can enable it in the router but how do i set it up with all my computers that i want connected?), how do i keep all the computers that i have connected right now, still connected and not blocked?
Ive never used encryption before. hence my no knowledge. another eta-.. What if i had the guys MAC address? what can i do with that? |

My I phone tries to connect to every Wi-Fi as I drive around. Gotta protect your stuff.

Dang, I read "wife" instead of "wifi". Holy shit.. I thought the same thing. I was thinking someone is going to be in deep shit. LOL |

If you left your wifi unsecured, you're just asking for someone to connect to it.

Packet sniff his credit card info and send a box full of gay sex toys to his address. Do it on a Friday and opt for overnight delivery so it arrives Saturday when the wife is home.

+++ on securing your network.
If you leave your front door unlocked, don't get pissed at the people who walk right in. If he was on your network, you should be able to get his IP address. Then in your settings block that IP from your network. |

Time to have some fun with a squid server. Redirect all of his web requests to tubgirl and gay pr0n.

Most wifi connections have a VERY short radius, so it had to be someone parked near your house.
But yea, secure that shit man. I live in a subdivision, and everyone has their locked down, |
|
you are pissed b/c someone connected to your unsecured router?
HILARIOUS. For fun, I like to put up another wireless router and let people connect to it, and sniff their passwords, its lead to some INTERESTING materials to say the least. |

If you have the MAC address, you could block it, or better yet, only allow your own MAC addresses. |

The OPs network would assign the intruder a local IP address, and it would change every time he connected assuming its running DHCP. |

If it's not secured by encryption––tough!
It's not like they're accessing your computer, they can't, unless it's on and they're a very, very sophisticated hacker. They're only using your internet, most likely from your hot-spot which they found. The can however download all sorts of stuff to your IP address, like child porn, copyright protected stuff (movies, games, etc.)––so if you get a letter from one of these companies demading royalties, you know how it happened. It all downloads to your IP address, even though it's going to a lap-top sitting at the curb. And there's no way of finding out what sites were visited, unless you wireles has a program constantly running with your computer to log the IP addresses accessed. So I'd encrypt it and fast. But encryption don't work worth squat either. I can log onto Thepiratebay.com and download an encryption breaker in two minutes, then be into your wirless and onto the internet in another five. So it's best you turn it off completely when you are not using the system. T |

There's a real good chance that Windows - especially if they have Vista - connected your neighbor automatically and that he does'nt even know about it. PC's do all kinds of things behind our backs...

Don't even bother with WEP. Most routers come with WPA2, go with that. If you are determined enough, you can find plenty of tools online that will hack a WEP key in less than 5 minutes. Better safe than sorry, go with WPA2.

Just enable WEP. select a password. When any of your computers tries to connect "like when you turn them on" it'll prompt you for the password. when you have friends over they can connect too. just give them the password. This wont stop someone who really wants in... but it will stop anyone that doesn't want to work for it. Just like a lock on your door. You're still broadcasting your address and inviting people to come by but when they get there you ask for the key. |

Yup. In my old development, my router apparently broke. Not sure when, but I was still using the default "Linksys" network name. Then one day, my brother came over, and he was trying to figure out why I only had a couple bars of signal strength. Well, turns out my router was dead. I had been connecting to my neighbor's network for possibly months without realizing it. Rename your network, and put a password on it. |

It would be the same IP where you set the security. |

Exactly. If my neighbor's unsecured signals are broadcast into my house, I will use them.
I think your wireless signal was trespassing. |

Secure your network if you dont want that.
Being angry at this is like being angry that someone can hear your music is playing. |
|
Figure out what IP they have then use Remote Desktop to connect. Try "Administrator" as the ID and a blank password.
Seriously, type 192.168.1.1 into your web browser and read the screen. You can rename the network, enable WPA/PSK and set the passphrase to whatever you'd like. If you're not real friendly with the neighbors, use a phone number as your password––it's unlikely to be easily guessed and easy to remember if you ever have company that wants to connect. |

Stop trying to fuck with the other guys shit, you're the moron running an unsecured wireless network and bitching about it.
