Anyone have any good gift ideas for Dad?  I'm drawing a blank here, and I need some really good ideas.

My father is single and lives alone. The man goes out and buys whatever he wants so it's difficult to find a gift for him. I usually go to a local butcher and have a case of good steaks done up for his freezer. He won't buy the expensive cuts of meat for himself and this way they last for a while.

He mentioned a few weeks ago that he would like to have a WWII dated carbine, which really suprised me because he isn't usually into military type firearms.

If I can't find one reasonably priced, I may do the steak thing...that's actually a good idea.

Tools, tools, and more tools!
The right ones for what he'll use them for though.
Did I mention tools

Ammo!  Then, if he's nice, he'll ask you to go shooting with him.z

I let my Dad use my .45-70 guide gun with Ashley outdoor sights and he loved it.  Dads pushing 70, and he hunts with a .30-06 with an "over and under" scope/mount.  His eyes are not that good anymore, and he has a hard time with the "standard" open sights on his rifle.  With the Ashely's, he could see the target and point of aim no problem, and could use the open sights(Ashley) on the marlin to hit a pie plate at 100 yds all day long. Even let him borrow it for hunting season.  Just an idea.

My old man's b-day was in early December. Just got back from visiting him during the week of his b-day for a little R&R/hog hunting. My b-day/X-mas gift to him: Marlin 336 CS in 30-30. Removed the front sight hood, replaced the back sight with a William's 5D peep sight (with twilight aperture), put on a braided leather sling from Cabela's, and spent 40 rounds breaking/sighting her in before surprising him on arrival. Needless to say he was quite pleased. Went silent stalking together, although we did not get any hogs.
