220 gr Sierra Matchking HPBT @ ~2400-2600 FPS

Just curious how my big thumpers would perform...

ETA: Details, .30 cal, actual velocity could be up to 2800 fps. Sierra suggests 2900 fps is possible but I doubt it. This is out of a 300 wby.

No soldiers, I was reading up the specs and saw lvl IV can stop 30-06 AP.

rem 700 in 300 wby. 24" bbl.

From what I've read, the rifle plates on such armor are designed to deform the projectile and thus assist the underlying fiber material by increased sectional density. Thats why AP uses penetrators which survive passage through insufficiently thick material. A longer bullet would still deform, but once the first 1/3 passed through the plate the remaining bulk of the bullet could continue on through the ceramic debris, impact with the vest material and continue through. Right?

No, AP is required for starters, HP will flatten out.

from what I've seen of the matchkings the hollow point is really just the jacket; the underlying lead is conical. these aren't ballistic tips or spitzers

I was actually thinking about some long-range handloads for my .300 Weatherby the other day.  I don't think I have the twist to run the 240gr SMKs so I started to look at the 220s as well.  If you had a 26" barrel I'm sure you could get 2800fps or more using Norma MRP powder.  Norma loads 200gr bullets in factory Wby ammunition to 3000fps.

HP will fragment, or flatten out.  FMJ 'might' make it through if it's hot enough.

Im gonna guess no.

I witnessed a 7.62x54R AP get stopped by an eSAPI.  I dug around in the hole and it still had another 3/8" to go before penetration.
