Viewing this link will reveal that the pre-ban configuration Colt AR-15 is being freely sold in Russia for $3500, but is illegal in the Peoples' Republik of Kalifornia.  What is wrong with this picture?

Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but the only place that you can't buy such a fine tool is the Worker's Paradise.

They (pre-ban ARs an M16s) are availible in other states if you have the money and can pass the background check.  

This situation seems really curious to me because I thought that all private ownership of firearms was prohibited in Russia.  Or was this only true in the former Soviet Union?
