Gonna be a long night

I can remember being like 3 and doing the same with my dad.  That long night will seem worth it when your kid grows up to be a giant asshole like me.  Or something like that.

ETA: and have fun listening to all the cars racing on the parkway all night long.

Might be a long night but I hope it's one he remembers forever.

Good luck and make him tell you some ghost stories

The world could use more good dads like you.

Oh well.  At least you tried.

There are a lot of dads that would be too busy or have some other lame excuse.

Roast marshmallows and hot-dogs with him. Sometimes kids like the simpler things like that. Good job daddy...

he actually fell asleep after quite a bit of arm twisting, but then woke up, looked at me and said "sing a song, dad"

I said "which song?"

He said "the bear song"

I don't know of any bear song, so I sang the bob the builder song, and he put his head back down for a second, lifted it back up, and said "where's my bed?"

I knew it was time to go inside.

Actually, you are wrong

The little guy meant go inside and get his bed and stuff it in the tent

So after breakfast this morning he looks out the window and says he wants to go in the tent

So here we are out in the tent and he's taking a nap

Good on you, novagator! Getting your boy ready for the outdoors and camping is the best thing you'll ever do! I got my boys outside in tents at ages 3 and up, now they are so into it, that they got their mom (HATES camping) ready to purchase a trailer RV thingie to go camping with us! We should be going to the adirondacks soon for some nice winter camping. One thing I would advise: make SURE you impress the importance of having a full canteen on him before walking more than 50 feet from camp!

We started taking the kids backpacking when they were 3 and 5. The next year, my wife was 4 months pregnant when we went again. The following year, the youngest was 4 months old and we went backpacking for 5 days. A month ago, my son, now 27, called and said, "let's go camping for a few days". He did ALL the cooking and treated me like a king. 12 degrees in the tent but we had a heater. We had a great time reminiscing about all the old camping and backpacking trips we took. GREAT TIMES!! Memories that you and your kids will never forget.
