I was taking a look through my carry ammo (which I usually leave stored in the Chip McCormick mags), and noticed this.

What do you think?  It kinda freaked me out, because this is the one that was previously in the chamber of the Warrior.

Toss it

No you should not shoot it. You need to inspect your carry ammo more often and replace it at least annually.

I had my 1911a1 do the same thing. My extractor was too tight, and caused it to nose up too hard when chambering the round. Don't shoot it.

Don't shoot it of course.

Nope.

You could salvage the components though.

Good thing you caught that.

I'd shoot it.  After I pulled the bullet and reloaded it.

Some better pics, and some comparison pics.  I remembered to use the macro setting this time!

That has a good chance of blowing up your gun.

I prolly would outta my Ruger.

That happened to my brother's ammo when he stored it in his 1911 for too long. That's from chambering it, ejecting it, then reloading it again. We call that a "Dog-Dicked" round because it has retracted back into the casing. Prolly a little more common with 1911's than other pistols. Trash it...

ETA: 1911's aren't really known for hollowpoint reliabilty.

My Kimber feeds HPs out of the McCormicks better than Ball out of the stock Kimber or McCormick mags.  It is a weird gun sometimes

Hmmm, 1 round of SD ammo... $1-$2

How much are glass eyes running these days?
Pistol frames and slides?
Hell, even a box of band-aids costs $4.

TOSS IT.

I am keeping it for components, because I keep telling myself that one day I will buy a reloading setup, and will start using it.

I am on E-3 (about to pick up E-4 again though) salary, so, yes, I am cheap, except for guns and carry ammo.  I already have 2 20mm ammo cans full of assorted caliber spent brass, with dessicant in there, just waiting for me to get out and have some time to get into it.

You need to stop unloading, loading and rechambering the same round. I always rotate the rounds in my carry mags.

Dump that one.

And quit chambering ammo as often.

They get to be a "Stubby" by repeated chambering from the mag.

Put 'em in the chamber, leave them in the chamber.
press check to verify, and leave 'em alone unless you are going to the range for practice/training.

As for pressures because of set back, in .45 it isn't as much a worry as with .40S&W or 9mm.

The .45acp isn't as freaky/peaky as the smaller internal volume wanna be's.

All the same, no point in pulling the dragons tail.

Rotate your carry ammo at least annually.
