after refinishing the stock on my sks, I have started to like it alot more. I sanded it down a bit, then finished it off with linseed oil. I also removed a few of the yugo original parts (grenade launcher, sights, bayo lug) and installed an L1A1 FAL flash hider. I like the LOP on the original stock, and for some reason it feels alot lighter than the "Ultralight" ATI stock. I polished the bolt carrier and bolt, and did some trigger work to lighten up the trigger pull. I'm leaning towards the
wooden stock, but I'd have to do a few more things to it just to keep it 922r compliant. If I leave the EBR stock on it, Im GTG.
what do you think? I haven't put alot of time and money into it. It's more like an experiment than an investment, so don't be too critical.

btw, the L1A1 flash hider fits perfectly on the yugo 59/66 threads without any modifications, and I bought it for $1.99

If you go with the wood, you have to remove that banana clip.    It looks better with the 10 rd mag.

What's with the flash suppressor?  It wasn't long enough for you as is?

I agree with this for functional reasons: you can't use stripper clips with that scope installed.  And the flash hider is just plain goofy.  I love my bone-stock SKS for being a handy little rifle.

here's some more pics with another yugo in it.

If I were to put the original 10rnd fixed mag would it be 922r legal even though I've modified it some? that's not a bad idea.

you know how I got rid of the cosmoline and pulled out the dents at the same time?
I threw it in the dishwasher. It prepped it up for sanding pretty good too.

Elbow grease and tung oil.

Didn't steel wool the 3rd coat of tung oil cause I thought the shiny look was actually working for me in the looks dept.

I lucked out on the wood though, we have two other 59/66's in the group of friends and the striping in the wood looks nothing like mine.

Yes,  could you imagine a Russian tapco'ing the fuck out of an M1 carbine.

I"m all for the tac stuff on AR's cause they do flow well, but the SKS and other historic "wood" rifles should be kept like the day they rolled off the line.

Wood, without a doubt.  Return her to military-original condition, or at least as close as you can get.  Trust me on this.
