Voting for Obama anyway I just got an astounding e-mail from a Republican consultant I know well. He's a guy who's always thought Obama had a "glass jaw," and was always among those agitating for hitting Obama harder. Recently, he conducted a focus group in an upper-Midwestern state, showing them the kind of ad he thought would work: A no-holds-barred attack, cut for an independent group, which hasn't aired. I'm just going to reprint his amazed e-mail about the focus group: Reagan Dems and Independents. Call them blue-collar plus. Slightly more Target than Walmart. Yes, the spot worked. Yes, they believed the charges against Obama. Yes, they actually think he's too liberal, consorts with bad people and WON'T BE A GOOD PRESIDENT...but they STILL don't give a f***. They said right out, "He won't do anything better than McCain" but they're STILL voting for Obama. The two most unreal moments of my professional life of watching focus groups: 54 year-old white male, voted Kerry '04, Bush '00, Dole '96, hunter, NASCAR fan...hard for Obama said: "I'm gonna hate him the minute I vote for him. He's gonna be a bad president. But I won't ever vote for another god-damn Republican. I want the government to take over all of Wall Street and bankers and the car companies and Wal-Mart run this county like we used to when Reagan was President." The next was a woman, late 50s, Democrat but strongly pro-life. Loved B. and H. Clinton, loved Bush in 2000. "Well, I don't know much about this terrorist group Barack used to be in with that Weather guy but I'm sick of paying for health insurance at work and that's why I'm supporting Barack." I felt like I was taking crazy pills. I sat on the other side of the glass and realized...this really is the Apocalypse. The Seventh Seal is broken and its time for eight years of pure, delicious crazy.... |

And this, compadres, is what H. L. Mencken was referring to when he said, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." We are farked. |

Never, ever underestimate the ability of people to be stupid. Especially in groups or at election time.
Also, never underestimate the seduction of "free" stuff from the government. Like Health care and houses. People like stuff. They like free stuff even better. They also forget that free stuff isn't free. But as long as someone else is paying for it, they will vote to get free stuff. |
|
Idiot. Yeah, Reagan and the government ran business back then, not the free market economy.
Tired of supporting yourself, huh? Fucking idiots. |

It is all about voting based on emotion vs. voting on reason.
If your friend really wanted to make an ad that would help, it would be just about the emotions of elections. Something like, "These are times of economic uncertainty, you do not fully comprehend how we got here, but here is where we are at. I know you want change but you can not forgo reason for change alone." Then you could lead into other stuff. |

That kind of dipshit doesn't make up their minds until their finger is on the way to the button.
I would not believe a word they say in a "focus group" or poll. Hell, I would be surprised if most of them even BOTHERED to vote. |
|
Spooky.
I just found this after making my post in this other thread: www.jobrelatedstuff.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=771947 |

Because I am a racist, I will for Obama. He is black you know.

Dude, I swear at the exact same time I read that line, Rush read it on the air. |

Observe how stupid the average citizen is, then realize half the population is dumber than that.

After hearing this morning on talk radio that some would vote for Obama because he was sexy and McCain was balding, I seriously wished we could go back the old ways. Only voting if you're a land owner and a single vote per household.
How can you possibly not know who you are votiing for this close to the election? What could conceivably change your mind at this point? |

I've never understood the unconstitutionality of the poll-tax. You have to pay a fee to the city to rent a park for a protest march to exercise your 1st Amendment right to peacebly assemble. You have to pay postage to sent a letter to your Congressman for a redress or grievances. You have pay taxes to run a radio station or publishing shop to exercise your right of free speech. You have to pay property tax to keep ownership of your private property. You have to pay a tax (stamp) to fully exercise your 2nd amendment right to bear arms. Why don't people have to pay to exercise their right to vote??? The answer is because it discourages poor people (i.e. Democrat-voting minorities) from voting for their favorite Socialist. |

Unless Pi is no longer 3.1415927 today, that CAN'T be right. |

People saw the government handing out checks after 9/11. They saw the government again handing out checks and debt cards after Katrina. The people now expect the government to give them things when they really need it. The more handouts the government gives the more people will demand hand outs. Sadly the Republicans were in charge of the House, Senate, and Whitehouse when the above handouts were started. This is just the beginning and it will get much worse from here.

Just remember, in a worst-case scenario---like the classic ARFCOM SHTF gun-grabbing fantasy---that about 50% of the public will have put him in office and therefore should suffer too. They would indirectly be the "enemy" as much as any JBT.
I swear, roughly half this country is fucked. It may swing 50-50 or 51-49 or even 52-48, but basically 150 million of our population has their head up their ass. |

A large portion of my hope for a McCain win is based on this..... |

The most amazing one I have seen is where some reporter goes out and asks who a person is voting for. The idiot then says Obama because he likes his policies.
The reporter then substitutes McCains policiies for Obama and says, so you like Obama's policies of lower taxes, a stronger defense in order to win the war and his anti abortion stance etc. The guys says yeah I agree with all that. The reporter did this a couple of times to different Obama supporters and none of them caught on. The like McCains view on things but are going to vote for Obama. I give up on the American public - all half the people want is something for nothing. |
|
That's the way I see it. Call me sick, but the thought of tens of millions of democrat-voting socialist-lovers suffering and worse during a SHTF situation would make me giggle. |

"Never attribute to conspiracy. that which can be explained by greed and incompetence"
Now share your wealth with the |

Actually, it was a Howard Stearn intern or something. Anyway, you could state that Obama's policy was to make sure every person is guaranteed sex w/ an underage boy during his administration, and they would have agreed. |

Me too |

You obviously missed the memo - by order of THE ONE (because he could never do those circle things at school) PI in now officially 2.000000 |

Amazing and sad. Having to stand in line with these morons when I go to vote is the reason I am going to get shitfaced the moment I get out of there
|
|
Also, who's to say that these other fees required to exercise your rights aren't unconstitutional too? Maybe we just got so used to having to pay to exercise what rights we are still allowed to have we forgot all about the original intent of the incredible men that wrote the Constitution. |

Yes, I just got beat down on another forum for calling BHO "Barack Hussein."
One of the members actually said they've never felt more violent after reading that... |

Running polls costs money. Voting machines cost money. County, state, federal election officials are paid salaries. It makes much more sense to offset these costs with poll taxes than to use general fund money. The latter is socialist - people who don't care to vote have to subsidize those who do. Pay as you go, IMHO. Disenfranchisement is a valid concern, so we could have programs where people who can show financial need get waivers. It could work like the food stamp program. it should not be harder to enroll for food stamps than to vote. The common Democrat party tactic of mass registering people too lazy and disinterested to get of their own ass and register themselves has never spoken well of their attitude towards the average real voter. |

Wow, sounds like an intellectual exercise on both ends . |
