Sperm Donor Must Pay Child Support - Report
STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A court in Sweden has ruled that a man who donated sperm for artificial insemination, enabling a lesbian couple to have three children, must pay child support after the two women separated, a Swedish newspaper reported on Sunday.

The regional daily Nerikes Allehanda said on its Internet Web site a county court ruled that the man was undoubtedly the children's biological father and hence obliged to pay child support of $265 per month after the women's 10-year relationship broke up.

The verdict poses a legal dilemma, however, because under Swedish law a sperm donor is not regarded as the legal parent of children conceived with the help of his semen.

Sperm donors, however, are normally strictly anonymous, while in this case the man was a friend of the couple and his identity as the father is in no doubt.

The man has appealed.

I think it is wrong for him to have to pay.. There are people out there who are gratefull for someone to do this for them..But to turn around a F@$K him like that is wrong. I know if I ever did it(which I don't think I ever would do) there would be a statement that I am in no way responsible for this and to keep my anonomous..Put it like this
"doin a good deed for someone in need!!"

Just out of curiosity, how much do they pay? I can't imagine any dollar amount that would allow me to justify having a child out there in the world that I don't even know, but on the other hand that Garand sitting on the rack at a gun store just around the corner is calling my name! This one will keep me up nights! [:D]

One of my classmates in grad school was a former Division 1 football prowess, Rhodes Scholar and the ladies all descrived him as gorgeous. He was a semi-regular donor at a local sperm bank for spending money while in school. From the money he had in his pockets with no other means to have obtained it, I'd have to say he could have had a garand any damn time he wanted it.

I'm a slightly overweight, average looking, 2.7 GPA student, with no discernable athletic ability or talent. Maybe I could get a Hi-Point. [:D]

Edited to add that a friend's girlfriend just walked in the room, saw my post, and said that guys like me are a dime a dozen. Looks like I would have to put myself through unhealthy amounts of masturbation just to get a box of Wolf .223, but what the hell it beats working for it.

Well, I know up here in Austin the sperm banks advertise (trying to get all of us poor college students) $150 per donation. The thing is you have to sign up for like a regular scuedule. I think when I looked at it you could make about $6k a year doing it. If money ever gets tight I might be over there. Of course you can make $80 a week donateing plasma here too. . .

I'm sure that was the deciding factor for the jury.

I would like to see some consistancy in Family law. In California any children born into a marrage are the husbands children by default. Even when it's known/proved the the husband is not the biolagical father, he is still fiscally responsible until 18. There have been a couple high profile cases about it. But the family courts say it's for the good of the child, so the ex-husband gets stuck, paying a a kid that isnt his.
