I got this letter back from the governers office when I sent a letter telling them I wanted concealed carry here.
Dear Mr. XXXXXXXX:
Thank you for your recent email regarding the right to bear arms.
As you may know, protecting the citizens of Kansas is a priority for
the Governor. He understands the importance of Kansans being able to feel
safe & secure. Some people have suggested that they would like to carry a
concealed handgun for their own personal protection, but for many Kansans,
knowing hidden guns are on our streets does not contribute to their sense of
security.
Given Kansas' current gun laws and restrictive sentencing policies,
the Governor remains unconvinced that a concealed carry law would result in
a decrease in the crime rate and an improvement upon current policy.
The Governor supports Kansas' current gun laws, which permit a
person to carry a firearm openly in public and openly in a motor vehicle,
subject to local ordinances. In addition, state law permits a person to
carry a concealed weapon on one's person while on their own land, in their
own residence, or in their fixed place of business. State law also
specifically allows licensed hunters and fishermen to carry a concealed
weapon while they are hunting or fishing.
Currently there are no state laws addressing a waiting period before
a gun can be purchased. However, the Brady Law was passed at the federal
level as a result of the attempt on former President Reagon's Life.
Thank you again for your email.
