If I had to pick a favorite it would be So Doggone Lonesome. Although all of his stuff from when he was with Sun Records is awesome.
Sunday Morning Coming Down
The Old Clock also liked his cover of ...Jonny Boy |
Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down
Delia's Gone A Boy Named Sue One Piece At A Time The Man In Black Cocaine Blues Understand Your Man Daddy Sang Bass |
My favorite is his cover of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. Even though I hate Depeche Mode.
Gods gonna cut you down
Hurt Rusty cage I've been everywhere Boy named Sue. |

I can't disagree with any of the above. I could listen to the man sing Old McDonald and still be impressed.

Understand Your Man
The Man Comes Around Folsom Prison Blues Don't Take Your Guns To Town |
persomnal jesus cover
cocaine blues boy named se man in black Did anone else see the mtw cash tribute where famous singers did his songs. a long haired guy in a stetson and black suit turned up with an acoustic samg boy named sue, sounded like cash looked like cash. No one knew who it was until the announcer said Thank you Mr Manson. |
Thanks never heard that one before www.youtube.com/watch?v=BllnvIvjLgw |
Huh? Who's Mr. Manson? Charles Manson? Marilyn? |
I am looking on youtube for a video of that. I have to see that! |
I am sure Marilyn, very talented man whose talents just went in a direction most don't like. I am a big fan of both Cash and Manson. Johnny Cash was the poet laurette for the american people for 50 years, just his poetry was done to music. Interesting tie, Cash's final video was Hurt, written by Trent Rezner who started marilyn manson's career. All three are great song writers. Its just the music that is different. Of the three, I like Cash the best, but I enjoy them all. |

This is the one I find myself humming when I think of the Man in Black. |
Do people posting in this thread remember his house in the Hurt video? Does everyone know it burned down
www.newschannel5.com/global/story.asp?s=6350504 Thank fully it happened before the (#&*&%)*^^ Barry Gibb could move in and ruin it. It seems fitting for it to happen for the Man in Black. |
I need to learn to read before posting |
This is the one I always suggest to Cash fans. One of the little known covers from his American Recordings. It's a cover from Bonnie 'Prince' Billy who does the harmony vocals on the track.
I See A Darkness |
I have been really getting into his covers of various songs done on the americana albums
Gibb bought the house and was planning on living in it. I'd guess that he'd somehow turn it into some sort of disco-inspired faggotry, instead of the shrine it should have been. ETA - looks like you hit "submit" about the same time I hit "reply". |
I Ride an Old Paint
Hardin Wouldn't Run Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie Sixteen Tons Daddy Sang Bass Five Feet High and Rising too many more to list, but there's a few of my personal favorites |
Funny, I just bought his AMericana albums last night:
My Favorites (In no pareticulkar order other than the first one): "Hurt": Simply the most powerful song I've ever listened to. You don't listen to this song...you feel it. Simply incredible. Even Reznor says that the song now belongs to Johnny. Folsom Prison Blues Bridge Over Troubled Waters (With Fiona Apple) When the Man Comes Around One (U2 cover) Man in Black I Walk the Line Ring of FIre (Also like the Social Distortion cover of it) Many many more. SG |
My Favorites:
Folsom Prison Blues (live) Big River Ring of Fire One Piece at a Time When The Man Comes Around Hurt (even though NiN did it first - his is far better) Boy Named Sue Jackson I Walk The Line Truly a great performer... known around the world. Have had many occasions where some alkihall has lead to singing many Johnny Cash songs with people from, and all, over the world - Korea, Indonesia, Lebanon, Mexico... all over. Great stuff. |
I couldn't begin to list my "favorites," it would take too damn long.
Well I'll just chime in to say I've been a fan since the 60's-70's JC.
The "Essential Johnny Cash" CD is...essential. |
Flesh and Blood
Unchained Tennessee Flat Top Box And of course Sunday Morning Coming down. "And the beer i had for breakfast wasn't bad so i had one more, for desert" |
No problem! you in Germany? I used to be in Wiesbaden |

Too many to list. I have around 10 of his CD's and I'll throw them in and just let them play. There isn't a single song that I'll skip.
One of my favorites off the top of my head though: If I were a carpenter |
His version of the OLD blues song "Rock Island Line" is a favorite of mine.
Seems whenever I'm at a late night campfire with friends, there's some Johnny Cash playing from someone's truck radio at some point. My 2 year old daughter is the biggest fan. She asks to listen to our Johnny Cash CD all the time. |
cnn.com has this up now: Johnny Cash impersonates Elvis

Hurt, Cocaine Blues, The Legend of John Henry's Hammer (Big time favorite), Folsom Prison Blues, Boy Named Sue, damn, there are just too many to list, but those popped in my head first.
