These scum were supposed to be supervised by the elected scum in congress.
They were chartered with ensuring that mortgages were (relatively) freely available to ALL (qualified) home buyers - especially the less affluent.
Instead, they were run by people who thought of them as private companies, and who were out for every fast buck they could get - knowing full well that they could take chances that private companies could not, because Uncle Sam would drag their nuts out of the fire if everything went sideways.
Yes, we have to rescue them, not for the sake of the executives of those companies, but for the sake of the many millions of Americans with mortgages taken out through these organizations.
Beyond the rescue, we need to see some VERY long jail sentences handed out to the (so called) "executives" of these organizations, but also for the congressional SCUM that failed (looked the other way) in their oversight tasks.
