Thanks

Doesn't play very nice with Verizon DSL software-still works, but Verizon claims SP3 is an "unsupported operating system."

Do a backup of your stuff. Some people with AMD processors initially reported that their computers got caught in an endless reboot loop. I think its fixed but I never looked into it since I didn't have an AMD CPU.

I installed it both at work and at home.  I didn't really have any issues.  My printer acted funny for a little while, but I can't directly attribute that to the service pack, although the printer has been fine for a year now, and a couple days after the install, it acted up.  A restart cleared it up, so it could have been unrelated.

That being said, we aren't doing anything too extensive with our PC's, so you may want to do more research before updating.

My recommendation is to be sure you do not have desktop search engine or IE7 installed. If you do, uninstall those first.

If they are already installed, SP3 will not let you uninstall them later.

Read through the notes on it and see if anything it fixes or adds applies to you.

Personally, for me, if you aren't having any issues with SP2, then I would wait until it is absolutely necessary to install SP3. At some point, Microsoft will stop supporting SP2, and stuff won't run etc, then I would do it.  But I would take system restore points and make register backups just in case.

I tried to install it and got some "access denied" messages. Wouldn't install. So I got online with the Microsoft "chat" guy in Bangalore. He stepped me through it. Took a couple of hours (fast cable/slow computer) but we talked (typed) about our home areas while it ran.

I've had no issues with my cable modem (Charter), printing, or anything else. I'm using IE6 &/or Firefox, so I guess I'm ok there.

I upgraded with no problems.  Running IE7.  Have some odd hardware like a quad head video card and USB sound card.  No issues here.

I installed the SP3 on my laptop (running IE6) and it went perfectly, no issues at all.

I was very afraid but no problems thankfully

After the SP 3 install, I could no longer install any Windows Updates or programs.

I uninstalled it and everything went back to normal.

No issues here.

Running it on an Enpower 660 notebook.  Dual booting XP and Vista sp1

I'm liking XP SP3 better than Vista SP1 after living with both.

YMMV

Just the 3-6sec delay in opening My Documents folder and when I can click on something...no problems otherwise.

Theres nothing wrong in that dept.

I rolled back to SP2 and delay went away.  Reinstalled SP3 and it was back.

It fooked my daughters Compaq something fierce. Had to do a system restore to get it to boot in anything other than safe mode. HAs been OK on my wife's HP laptop and my generic Micro Center desktop.

Installed it yesterday and also installed the new Kaspersky AV 2009 program (free for current key holders).  No issues at all.  At first it seemed to lag a bit, but once everything was running and certain apps had been opened (e.g., IE7, OE, Control Panel apps, Windows Explorer/File Manager) and I did a defrag with O&O V8, all was fine.

Even my MSFS (FS9) with plenty of add-ons works the fine.  I'm also still downloading porn like crazy, so SP3 hasn't fucked anything up for me yet!
