Some of you may remember a post I did about a visit to the J. M. Davis Firearms Museum in Claremore, OK.

It is one of the best firearms museums in the world.  It seems that it is also under attack.

I got this note from a friend in Claremore:

"I love the story that you did on the J.M. Davis Gun Museum, if you have not heard there is a law suite going on between the Foundation that represents the Davis family trust and the State Commission that is in charge of the daily operations.  As a 30 year resident of Claremont and a regular visitor to the Museum I really do not understand what is going on.  But let me make my point; the Foundation claims that they have not been able to get the trust to make some changes to secure the collection and make for a full accounting.  Based on what I know, the current curator has been in place for just short of a year; he has done a great job of cleaning the place up, organizing the collection that is stored in the back and has even setup some new displays.  I think that someone on the Foundation is getting greedy and is looking for an excess to sell the collection.  

The help that we need as a member of the gun culture is whatever influence you can muster to get folks to call, and or write to either the chamber of commerce in Claremont, or the local newspaper the Claremont Daily Progress.  This collection needs to be kept in tack for future generations to enjoy.

If you've never visited this fine museum, you need to do so.  If you can help with a kind note to the paper, that might be a big help.

Let's not let them sell off this fine old collection.
