It is the best comic ever. It was the only comic I've ever actually given a crap about. I used to look forward to every Sunday paper as a child just to read it.

I would get the collections and flip through it at random and read a few pages, that way years down the road i would find a page i hadn't read and it was like christmas.

I need the master collection now!

Actually, I think it was the proliferation of the "pissing" calvin images that starting popping up everywhere.

Come on, those stickers are the pinnacle of classiness!

Those, plus a set of trucknuts, just embody style and sophistication.

Throw in some stick on bullet holes and a windshield banner that says "Touch of Class" or "Git 'r Done!" and you've reached the Valhala of Classy.

Gotta add the female calvin on the pass. side squatting on something...

Yep, my all time favorite comic too. I looked forward to reading the latest Calivn and Hobbes when I grabbed a Stars and Stripes newspaper. Then there was Far Side, and Bloom County. Those were the days... (wow, that was back when Stars and Stripes cost a dime, wonder what it costs now?)

I think it's because he got into this huge licensing disagreement with the AP,or something. They wanted to merchandise Calvin and Hobbes and the author(Waterson)didn't feel it would be in his best interests.

You knw what? I was looking for my collection right now and can't find it. I couldn't remember the writer's name and looked just about everywhere! I don't know/remeber if I lent them to somebody(probably my sister) or what. I'll look around some more and then call her if I can't find them.

The syndicate was OK with no licensed products, even though a Hobbes plush toy would have made them millions, so long as it kept Watterson on board. Just the book compilations where hugely profitable. But Watterson did pass up millions in licensing deals to maintain his vision of the comic.

Eventually Watterson just wanted to move on. Rumor has it he's trying his hand at fine arts/painting now. You have to respect his decision, even if it does deprive you of C&H. It's not like you can draft him and force him to draw comics at bayonet point.

There was another, similar one that I really liked. Mainly because it hit so close to home during my rather unpleasant divorce.

They were in the wagon rushing down the hill. Discussing the ways of the world. Off the cliff they go. Flying assholes over elbows Calvin waxes "Nothing is so bad it can't always get worse."

That would make a good Calvin in Hobbs strip. Forced to draw comics at bayonet point.

When my kids were in their early years, I bought my wife as many Calvin and Hobbes books as I could. She never had younger brothers and her next oldest brother was almost 9 years older than she was. I felt she needed some insight into the mind of small boys.

C & H may just have saved my kids from an early death at the hands of their Mom. (note: this is an exageration, honey.)
