I have a 9mm (Glock 26 or Keltec PF9) as a carry gun, and a .45 1911 5" as one of my HD guns.

I'm liking what Double Tap has to offer load wise, and I'm wondering:

Would the higher velocity, slightly lighter bullet (still heavier than 115gr FMJ) be more desireable than a heavier bullet?  I know muzzle energy isn't everything and that wound channel and bullet expansion play a large part in the effectiveness of a particular round.

These are all Gold Dot bullets

9mm
-- 124gr +P 124gr @ 1310fps / 473ft. lbs. from a G17
or
-- 147gr @ 1135fps / 421ft. lbs. from a G17

45acp
-- 185gr 1225fps - 616 ft./lbs. - 5" 1911
-- 200gr 1125fps - 562 ft./lbs. - 5" 1911
or
-- 230gr 1010fps/ 521 ft./lbs. - 5" 1911

for 9mm, the 147 gr bullets tend to expand the best.

230 gr for the 45

for 10mm 165 or 180gr are good choices.

I like DT but their 9mm loads are dirty, not the case with their other ammo, at least it seems that way in my experience.

It's not like I'm going to be shooting 50 or 100 of them per range trip, I'll probably make sure they function properly in each firearm and use them as defense ammo only.  Save the cheaper stuff for plinkin/practicing.

Pushing a bullet out of its designed performance envelope rarely has positive results...

Winchester recommends 147gr for short barrels...
