I can't find a Walnut stock without a cheekpiece for a Remington 700 anywhere.

Can the cheekpiece on a Remington 700 wooden stock be removed, (ground away) and still have a normal stock?

I tried Microfit stocks. They won't do it.
Accurate Inovations wants a million dollars for one.

Can anyone help me figure out how to obtain a Basic Walnut Stock for a Remington 700 without a cheekpiece? Like on the old M40 sniper rifles.

Never mind, it looks like they don't offer custom stocks anymore.

Try ordering one from Remington, they sell stocks,last i heard.They have the M40 comm. or whatever it's called.

I've done a few that way. Turned out real nice after refinishing.

Nobody wants to do a custom stock. I am hitting dead ends at every call.

My only option is to grind off the cheek piece area. I need to know if the cheeck piece can ground off and still have normal dimensions in the comb area. Or if removing the cheek piece would muck it up.

YES !!!! something just like that....With out the cheek piece. Basic Old School Plain.

I have been at it for 2 weeks and can't find one. I will call E-gunparts Thanks.

I think the Remington M40 Comm. is a very limited item and they aren't selling stocks for it

So the cheek piece can be sanded away and your left with a normal stock correct?

No indentations? or relief marks?

Hal,

I've used a hand-held sander and an upright sander. Either way, you can re-contour the stock. You will have to refinish it once you get the contour you want. Once you get close, you will need to hand sand it and finish it the way you want it.

(We are talking about a wood stock, right

)

Yes a wood stock.

Sounds good.

I have called all the major stock manufacturers with no luck, so the sander it is.
Hopefully it will retain the full contour after removal.

I tried all day to contact Boyd's with no luck. They are out of stock of everything.

Finally got an email through and hopefully they will respond tomorrow.

Seems like such a simple thing, but it's been a bear.

I need a Short Action, the first link is a Long Action. otherwise, perfect

I actually Bought the second link, on ebay, to try and sand off the cheek piece.
