Rented a Glock 19 tonight at a range here in Dallas
"Target Masters" for those interested, very nice employees, let my friend and I shop and finger fuck merchandise for well over an hour, couldn't have been nicer to the two of us. Anyways, it didnt kaboom, my hands are ok, and fire/brimstone didnt rain from the sky.  I actually shot quite well from 7-10 yards, not a stellar distance, but I am not an accomplished pistol marksmen either. Overall a very nice experience, may have to look into buying a new/used one sometime in the future. And yes, I have shot 1911 style pistols, and yes I enjoyed them thoroughly, at the moment im trying to find what works best for me for when I decide to make a purchase. |

Shot my first a month ago, it was a .45. Didn't much like it as I thought the grip was a bit too big. I must have bitch hands...

It felt very good in my hands, trigger took a bit to get used to but once I did, I was shooting quite well/consistently. If I have the chance, I definately need to get more trigger time with one. |

Try the G36. That's my csr gun and my brother, a PA State Trooper, uses one as his backup. Fits in my hand like a chopped down 1911, IMHO. |

Most of the Glocks I have heard about die on their own and don't need to be shot. You must have run across a tough one.
Rare breed indeed.  ETA - what's the best round/load for shooting a Glock????? Is 9mm enough to take one out or do I need a .45?? |

Glocks are awesome!! I have a G22 and a G17 and both have been flawless through many thousand of rounds.

Glocks are great guns, and very rarely break or malfunction (unless you have REALLY crappy ammo or limp wrist it like a fairy). No the trigger isn't as nice as a 1911's, but toss in the 3.5 connector and practice steadily with em, and you can do this without problems.

G21? They're frigging huge, and this is from someone with yeti-sized hands. I still enjoy shooting it though, much more than my 1911. |

I agree. The Glock 21 is an enormous handgun. But they are fun to shoot. Personally, I prefer the XD .45 to the Glock 21, but I am a huge fan of Glock pistols. The Glock 17 is probably the perfect handgun in my expert opinion. |

My G30 is my daily carry. I put my 30+ year old Colt Combat Commander away for a while and let the Glock take over for a spell. |

I don't understand the hatred or fear or mystery of the Glock, I bought my 20(10mm) in '99 and it has eaten several thousand reloads, most of which were lead, I have not had one single problem.
I bought my 27 in 2000 for concealed carry, it too runs without a hitch, I get a perfect score with it in my CCW qualifications, they both have proven themselves to be reliable. I have seen more function issues with the beloved 1911 style guns than any Glock. |

I was issued a Colt 1911 in the Army '69 and '70. The Lifers hated me because I was only a Sp4 but got the 1911 because I handled Crypto gear. I loved my 1911.
I was especially impressed with the Minute of garbage can lid at 10 yard range. Mine was very old. I really liked the way it rattled when I shook it. Sort of like a baby rattle. Reminded me of when I was a kid and comforted me on those cold nights on the ground in Germany. Cleaning was simple as a sharp bang on the grip and it would dismantle itself into it's component pieces. Very convenient. I never felt the need to buy one after I returned to the World. I did have a S&W .357. and others. In 1999 I got a Glock 17. Happiness ensued.

I ran my first ipsc match a month ago with a loner glock 22, I took first out of five other guys in c class. I did ok I guess for it being the first time shooting competitively with a pistol I'm not familiar with.

I am in DFW, and if you're buying the ammo then I can provide a g17, g19, and g26. My schedule is pretty hectic currently but weekdays are usually best. I usually go to Targetmasters or DFW Gun range. Shoot me an IM, we'll try to work something out. |

I got tired of farting around with 1911's. I've owned at least eight and now have 2. The ones that worked. I think they are a fine pistol within their original design parameters (ALL forged parts, correctly assembled and fitted, and used with mild pressure ball ammo) but you step outside that spec and it's hit and miss. I have one G19 that is kind of an experiment but has about 10K rounds through it and has never jammed (few duds with cheap reloads), and never been cleaned. I just wipe it off to keep from getting myself dirty. I use the 3.5 disconnector on all of mine. Once you learn to stage the trigger (fire, let it reset to just past the "click" and fire again) you will find it's even a better trigger than a 1911. I also have a G29 that's a hoot with full power 10mm ammo. The 1911 was a brilliant design for the times and the Glock was a brilliant design considering when it came out (I think it's about 30 years old now). Many of the plastic pistols these days are at a minumum, "Glock inspired" and possibly improvements. For me, the Glock is sort of what Browning might have designed given the tech at the time. Nothing fancy, just a machine designed to fire bullets. Not as pretty as a 70 series Colt but likely to give you less heartache. All depends on what you want in a pistol. One of my 1911's is a Kings do-over of a 70 Colt Commander, ugly nickel finish with rubber grips but accurate and absolutely reliable. Remarkable 1911 and will never be sold.
