I recently purchased a Treadlok security chest to store my guns.  The chest is about 5 feet long and 30" inches wide.  I can store about 10 rifles and lots of handguns and ammo.  It has two Medeco locks to keep the contents secure.  Between all my ammo, guns and the weight of the chest, it weighs about 600 pounds.  I purchased it from a friend for about $200.  Seemed like a good deal.  My only complaint is that it is a PITA to open because I have to get on my hands and knees to use the key on the locks.

Does anyone have a Treadlok chest of know anything about them?  I have a few questions.  First, is the chest fire rated?  Will my guns be safe in the event of a fire?  Second, how can I secure this thing to my floor or wall?  Third, the hydraulic struts to open and close the top are shot and need to be replaced.  How do I replace these (looks like a bitch of a job) and where can I buy replacements (anyone know the size and rating if replacements are not available?)?

Thanks.
Ken

If its not lined with ceramic or at least drywall and has seals around where the door mates to the frame, its not fire rated. You could try to match up the struts to automotive vehicle struts at Autozone etc.
