They are seedless and being round makes them easier to ship and pack.

The smaller round melons are called 'ice box type' melons and you can ship more of them than the bigger 'rattlesnake' types

OK, but they charge as much for the ice box types as they do for the normal sized ones that I got last summer, $5-$7.
