GENEVA —  A U.S. decision to bend policy and sit down with Iran at nuclear talks fizzled Saturday, with Iran stonewalling Washington and five other world powers on their call to freeze uranium enrichment.

In response, the six gave Iran two weeks to respond to their demand, setting the stage for a new round of U.N. sanctions.

Iran's refusal to consider suspending enrichment was an indirect slap at the United States, which had sent Undersecretary of State William Burns to the talks in hopes the first-time American presence would encourage Tehran into making concessions.

Officials and diplomats refused to characterize the timeframe as an ultimatum, but it appeared clear that Iran now has a de-facto deadline to show flexibility.

Who were the other nations?

I'd be interested to know who else we are throwing in with.

These bastards have made us look like impotent fags since 1979.  When are we finally going to take them out?  Soon there will be no way to get rid of them because they'll have nukes.

Sanctions? As long as Iran can sell their oil and natural gas all the sanctions in the world won't hurt them. We're screwed either way at this point. It's not a question of if but when. And when the "when" happens the worlds economy is going to take a massive hit.

Brinkmanship. The UN (and the rest of the world) has no balls and Iran knows it. Play hardball long enough and the UN will, in an effort to avoid war and alleviate the 'suffering' the Iranian people will endure as a result of sanctions,  capitulate and offer to build Iran a reactor, supply them with enough nuclear material to operate it and other incentives. And all they'll ask for in exchange is that Iran stop enriching their own uranium. Iran will stop only when it feels that they've bled the world of as much incentives as they can...

"nuclear talks" ?

Bullshit.

The US was there to hear the Iranian response period.
A sealed letter isn't "talks".

Fucking MSM.
They want everything to sound like an Obama plan.

Seriously dude. I mean... I mean...

Its no wonder they keep pushing. Everytime Iran has pushed there has been no consequences.

Now it is to the point where it is going to be expensive in terms of money, equipment, resources, opportunity costs and American lives to make this happen.

It would have been much less costly 20 years ago. But we've been "talking" and "negotiating" and "sanctioning".

Another ultimatum.  Let's see using Iraq as a recent example.....  only 18 more ultimatum's to go before something happens.

Don't worry. Hans Blix will send them another harsh letter.

Thank you President Caarduer. You pussy.

Congress wants a blockade. Won't work. Iran has too much border with other countries.

Time to tighten the ratchet another notch. Bush is running out of time.
