It's built right into Windows, and it's called the "files and settings transfer wizard".

I knew that was there, but based on casual reading was under the impression that it doesn't "clone" the entire drive contents to a new drive, but merely copies the Windows system files to another seperate computer....
If it DOES what I'm looking for, is it pretty easy? And about how long would it take to transfer a VERY full 100GB drive over to a new 500Gb? |

About the closest you're going to get to want you want is to copy the "Profile" from one Windows box to another. You'll still have to reinstall all the software, but you'll keep all your documents, emails, Favorites, etc.

Acronis home does a total clone. Good deal @ 30 bones.

You want to clone your existing hard drive. If you have a Seagate hard drive they offer free tools to do this on the website, called Sea Tools. Check the mfg of your drive and see what's offered by the manufacturer.

when you buy a hard drive there is a program included to make a mirror image on your new hard drive of the old one. All new drives come with this. just follow the directions in box and you will be good to go. You want to make a mirror image not just copy the drive. A mirror image has all your stuff and setting and will be the bootable drive after you are done.

i've done it probably 10k times. i use norton ghost 2003 on a bootable cd.
easy to do, easy to screw up and loose all your data if your not sure how spend the 50 -100 bucks and have a local computer shop do it for you
