Could those "Special Forces" guys actually be CIA? [>:/]

could be.

I doubt they are CIA. They look like vacationers. They are just watching their buddy rock climb.

hmmm, course if you are CIA or other spooks helping out in a foreign land, would make sense to carry what the locals are... les suspicion and easier supply lines.

They probably are CIA or CAG. Either way, normal grooming standards don't apply and they are undoubtedly well-trained with Eastern Bloc weapons. Also, that's the most common weapon around if you're advising the Afghans.

Sorry for pointing out the obvious.

Guy on the left looks like he's got about 8 weeks worth of beard growth - about the same amount of time our guys have been in country. Just needs a turban on his head and a sun tan and he's one of them !

I wonder if they're taking applications? [:D] What a cool job.

My first impression was that they are actors making a movie.  Kinda funny.

Is that tape on the folding stock of the AK a marker for consistent cheek placement and therefore sight alignment?

Look at that guy on the right and tell me he's US military Special Ops! He's either CIA or a photgrapher "on tour"!

What about his looks tells you he isn't special forces (or an operative of some sort) I've known and/or met several special ops guys and they don't look like Rambo. Most of them look pretty much like regular guys, in decent shape sure, but not hulking monsters.

They kinda look like the same guys in the SF Prison link:

I'm no expert, but the first time I saw those guys on tv i thought they were delta all the way. From the descriptions i've always heard of operators these guys fit the bill...except that i've never seen pictures of operators with their faces shown. Hmmm...who does number 2 work for?

It probably helps that in Afghanistan the sound of an AK going off calls a lot less attention than an M4.  They sound a lot different.

i saw the guy in the very frst pic in the black shirt on tv today. the tv station had some "rare" shots of british commando guys and the dark shirt was in a differnt shot and i think he was saying "turn the cameras off".

This isn't too PC, but here goes ...

I'll bet they look exactly the same to the Talibanis, Al Queda, etc..  "Couple of infadels" ... "two Anglos" ... "be on the lookout for white guys with beards"

Oh...brother!  Maybe the first was "photo shopped".  But these aren't the same guys otherwise!

Does anyone else think those two guys look like Bill and Ted's Excellent Afghanistan?

They're tourists, obviously. Haven't you heard about the booming tourism industry in Afganistan? That guy is bringing that AK folder home as a present for his kid.

...damn, I want to be his kid if that was the case.

... I took the first photo and lightend it up quite a bit using Photoshop to better tell what the guys on the right had on.

However, I cannot seem to SAVE AS that second photo and do the same.

Why?

... you experts try it and post one much lighter, OK

... These kinds of photos just flat intrigue me. I studied the heck out of them.
I finally got that second photo lightened up and I’ve come to a conclusion that I don’t think was noted previously here.

Look closer at the one with the Afghan in it. He’s carrying an M4 in that picture not an AK

WTF?

I think the guy on the left is not happy with the guy on the right... he is going to shoot him in the balls! he is saying , to distract, "Hey see that airplane"

Here's the explainaion beind the pics:

http://ak.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?id=50569

It says they're U.S. special forces.  If they are, it looks like they've been in the mountains for a couple of weeks prior to showing thier faces to reporters.

In a shitty place where 5.56 x45mm is rare, and 7.62 x 39mm and 5.45 x 39mm are the fashion craze.

Yes, sure does make sense to me. When in Rome....

All the best to the SF (USA UK AUST) blokes and the Leathernecks, who now will write another chapter in history.

'Strike Swiftly'
1feral
Sydney

PS - It looks like an East German job too. I have seen the same in SF service here, along with Czech VZ58's too. It is always good to be efficient on the enemy's weapons and weapons systems. The RPGs 2 and 7, are sure easy to use, and are by far more simple than the 84mm Charles, and even the latest M72A6's.

The 'bomb' goes in one way only and the thing cocks like a revolver and has a cross bolt safety. Crude but effective.
