 More like a failure to extract but hey it's a 1911 so it really doesn't matter. Oh yeah, my Glock 23 and Glock 17 ran flawless

That tickled my funny bone for some reason. Maybe because it seemed you took it as a direct insult because of your user name. G L O C K But I have to admit. I went shooting last night and my buddy brought a 1911. Every time I shoot one it takes over a month to stop wanting to buy one at every gun store I go to. |

What's funny about the Garand is that the mag spring has tons of pressure so it might be a gas problem but then that wouldn't explain why it works fine on round 5-8

that pressure might be causing the bolt to drag, sorry I didn't get back to the other thread. the rounds might be forced up on the bottom of the bolt, causing it to drag, then when the first few rounds are out, there isn't as much upward pressure. I don't think it's a gas problem. |

This is going to sound odd, but the only pistol I can get to jam by purposely limp wristing is my G19. My 1911 won't do it. |

you can double check to make sure the gas cylinder lock and plug are tight, but I really doubt it's gas. |

Not to insult you, but is it possible that you had a dirty bullet chamber? I mean maybe you have been cleaning it with CLP, but haven't scrubbed it good with some solvent in a while. Try it.

<shrug> It's got (maybe) 500 rounds through it. It's a Springfield GI. All I've done with it since I bought it was change the sights, and tune the extractor (and I still don't like the extractor at all). I don't shoot it much anymore, so it hasn't been high on my priority list to fix. |

I've got one of those. Swap out the firing spring and recoil spring with Wolff or Colt springs, fire it some more and it will run like a raped aped. Currently the only .45acp pistol I won. Look at the bottom of the frame, should say Imbel. That gun is a good foundation for a builder, if you sell it, let me know. I am eventually going to change my extractor with a milled one, but have yet to have the original fail. And whatever you do, don't drop the slide on an empty mag or no mag, you will ruin the sear. |

Yep total limp wristing. I think there are some exercises you and your boyfriend can do as you walk hand and hand. Sorta like Isometrics.

Not advisable unless he has a firm grasp of bending the extractor and measuring the tension, otherwise it will get worse. The best course of action is to take it to a reputable 1911 smith. Guessing on the extractor tension is a frustrating way to waste a lot of ammo, IMHO. |

My 1911 won't limp-wrist, but depending upon what hollow point or bullet type (some lead flying ashtrays) I'm using, it'll fail to feed once in a rare while...
