I just recently cancelled my wife's and my cellphone service a couple weeks ago, and it's pretty refreshing. We have free long distance through Comcast so the main reason for having the phone is gone now. My wife started an at home daycare business, and I'm not allowed to have a cell at work (security reasons). So keeping in touch isn't affected for the most part. Overall, it's just $70/month I'm not spending anymore.
I do still use my phone as a rolodex though  I haven't gotten my #'s organized someplace else yet.

I have a novel feature on my cell phone that allows me to cancel or reinstate service, literally at a moment's notice. It's called the "ON/OFF" button.
I use it to "get rid" of my phone at least several times a day.The expense of having cell service isn't much of a concern - Net10 only charges for actual phone calls made or received, which for me averages out to around 10 bucks a month. |

I dont talk on my phone but 100-200 min. a month. I text alot.
I tried to explain to t-mobile that there was no way I used 2,000 min. in one month as I left them to go to AT&T. I have had the lowest AT&T account since January (I think) and I have 1,300 roll over min. If it were not for texting I would not have it. |

I canceled mine a year ago, it has been nice not lugging it around, and only talking to people when I want to.

My wife and I cancelled ours about 4 months back- don't miss it at all.
But I also don't have cable TV anymore and I've been taking the welfare wagon to work most of the time, so we've done a few changes to our monthly budget. |

The ONLY reason I have one is to get overtime from work and for my part time job. If not for those two things, I would not have one. When I retire, the cell phone is gone.
Count on it. |

I talk 1,000+ minutes of peak time a month. I couldnt do my job without it as an auditor and never being in the office.
I turn it off on the weekends. My company pays for part of the service. |

We finally broke down and got one of the pay as you go variety a few months ago. A lot of the family and some friends were going to meet up in the Washington DC area and then go down to SC for my sons wedding. Having a phone made sense for that evolution.
Since we got back, I think we have put about 10 minutes on it. Mostly to the boys that Mom and I won't be back til late, get your own damn dinner. The kids have and pay for their own. It has been a good lesson in how "Free Minutes" costs them about $60/month. |

Company paid for and with me 24\7. Of course I was able to cancel my landline because of this about 4 years ago so it's my main phone as well. If I really don't want to be bothered I can just turn it off.

I have not had a home phone for 4 years.
I have missed it exactly never. I also have no problem turning my cell phone off. It is just far too convienant to have a phone I can choose to take with me, or not. |
