Can someone explain the benefit of using tabs versus multiple windows?  I can understand if there are 5+ versions of firefox open, but what's the benefit of using tabs when you typically only have 2-3 items open?  It saves me a step when I only have to click on the taskbar, rather than on firefox, and then the correct tab.

For a long time after the tab feature was invented for internet browsing, I resisted it. Now... I embrace it!!!!

Comes into play when I have multiple other apps running and don't want 5 or 6 web browsers open too.  I have found I much prefer tabs to separate tiny task buttons.

For 2-3 pages, probably not much.  Tabs will give you the benefit of having a logo inside each tab representing the webpage, whereas multiple windows wont.  So in that regard its slightly easier to identify which page you want to visit.

For people like me, who opens 22 tabs when I open Firefox, there is slight memory improvement.  22 tabs uses about 190 megs of ram, vs those same 22 opened as individual browsers used 220 megs of ram.

Now all you need to do is learn not to install toolbars when installing other programs.

the only downside to using multiple tabs in firefox is that you can' t 'alt+tab' between different pages.  not a big deal most of the time though.

Version 2 crashes constantly on my 64 bit machine and version 3 won't work with needed add ons.  So I'm stuck with either a crashing version 2, or IE.  I've tried the other browsers and so far they either don't work properly with the add ons and other stuff I need, or they won't run under 64 bit OS's or under Vista.

I wasn't aware that Firefox had nubs?

Maybe Firefox should see a doctor for them.

Here is another tip that I find very few people use or know about.

This refers to the history drop down list.  It also refers to any text box on a web site where you previously entered values. For example, it starts to auto complete your username, search text in Google, or once again any place it tries to complete the text.  I noticed that many people don't know how to remove items from these auto complete lists.

To do so: arrow down to highlight the entry you want to remove.  Hold the Shift key and press the Delete key.  Gone.

Tabs rock.

Here's a tip I just recently learned.  When you want a new tab opened in the BACKGROUND click on the link with the MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON.

This works in Opera, and I think Firefox, maybe even MSIE.

Did you miss it above?  There is a version that works with 3.0.  In fact, if you go to Tab Mix Plus on the Mozilla site where you would normally download it they have a link to the beta that works in v3.
