Why?  Because everyone luvvvvvvvvvvs threads about religion. [0:)]

The rules:

1) You may post only one verse at a time.  Don't cut and paste something like the entire book of Numbers, mkay?

2) You must cite the chapter and verse being quoted.

3) No nudity. [:)]

From Genesis:

16 Then God made two great lights: the greatest light to rule the day, and the lesser lights to rule the night. He made the stars also.

The greatest light of course being our sun, a 3rd generation star that in no way could have been part of an original creation and the lesser light being a reference to the moon created long after our sun. Of course our sun is also a star, but the ancients didn't understand that.

Of course many contemporaries have problems with things that contradict deep seated beliefs. Many believe the Earth, as well as all creation is only approx. 10,000 years old. Many refuse to accept that the universe could even be 1,000,000 years old because this would contradict many religious tenets. The obvious problem is stars being visible a million light years away. The mere fact that we can see that star proves it has been there at least one million years. Of course there are those who would suggest we cannot accurately guage the spped of light or dimensions of the immediate universe.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:  "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

Ok, but I'll give you one from the Old Testament, and one from the New.

On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:
'Oh sun, stand still over Gideon, O moon, over the valley of Aijalon.
So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies

Joshua 10:12, 13

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and out hads have touched - this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.  The life appeared; and we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the father and has appeared to us.

1 John 1:1,2

Ezekiel 25:17

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I don't know the chapter or verse (I think it's from Psalms) but

"I have digged a pit for mine enemy, and am fallen into it"

is something that's relevant to daily life. I don't see it as referring to a physical pit, but a scheme that someone tried to perpetrate against someone else and got caught up in it himself. So, what it's saying is to be honest and up-front in your dealings with others, and don't conspire and scheme against them. Good advice for anyone, any time!

Ephesians 6:10
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

6:11
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

6:13
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

6:14
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

6:15
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

6:16
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

6:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

A good one indeed.

Thank you sir!
I was on the way out the door when I posted that, and couldnt get to my bible to copy it exactly....
You beat me to it!

I should remember it by heart.  I once got to preach a sermon on that as a teenager when my church had youth sundays and everything for the main service was turned over to the youth dept.
A true sermon in Southern Baptist fashion, we were out for lunch by 11:45  [;D]

I had some awesome times then.  (..and still do, only many years into adulthood, and more toys to play with  [:)]

And He said to them, "When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?" So they said, "Nothing." Then He said to them, "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: 'And He was numbered with the transgressors.' For the things concerning Me have an end." Philippians 4:6-9

6. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7. and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.
9. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
