I was forced to endure 5 hours of CBS programming last night and they had some show calle CSI on. It is about some group of yuppies who go over crime scenes looking for clues. Anyway there is one scene where in the ballistics lab one guy says "the gun could have only been a .45 cal glock or hk usp". They decide it is a USP based on the # of grooves cut in the bullet and then goes on about the ATF report saying there are only 17 REGISTERED in all of Nevada with 7 being in Clark County.

Is this true?

LOL I saw that too. They said that a HK USP.45 is a rare collectors item and only a handfull of people have them.

that show makes me laugh so hard when they show up at a crime scene with there leather jackets and expensive clothes. or when they say crap like there only xxx refistred in NV. there is no registation in nevada

I saw the show also - I don't think they ever said it was a rare collectors item, but just that your average street thug didn't have one, because of the cost (which is probably true). However, the ballistics "expert" mispronounced Koch, and if you paid close attention, the gun they used was actually a USP Tactical (check out the sights) with an aftermarket barrel (it was polished, like I believe capital city's are), and none of the aftermarket barrles have polygonal rifling.

Yep, CSI is WAY too [B]foo-foo[/B] for my taste.

However, "The Agency" follows right afterwards, and THAT's not too shabby a show! Been a long time since anyone has portrayed the CIA in a positive light, but this show does. Also, the regulars are interesting and believable characters — human, imperfect, yet very good at their jobs.

the projectile they kept showing had clearly defined rifleing. it was NOT fired from a poly barrel. about that and the registration i said "oh, bullshit!" out loud. everyone in the room looked at me. the turd in the punchbowl, as usual.

just reminds me why i don't watch network tv.

Actually, we do have gun registration. In Clark County (Las Vegas, etc.) all handguns (not rifles) must be registered with the police. It must be a well kept secret because I did not know about it until recently after I moved here. Someone told me I had to take my handguns down to the police station and get my "blue cards". When you buy a handgun the store does it for you - but all handguns must be registered in Clark County. Even with my CCW I have to carry the blue card for that particular gun as well as my CCW permit. In fact you can only have 2 handguns on your CCW and that means those are the ONLY 2 you can carry concealed. But a handgun (as long as it is registered) can be kept loaded in the glove box of your car (personal property). The laws are a little different here - on one had Las Vegas is pro-gun on the other it is not. Don't forget Algore carried the most votes here last November. The liberals are definitely growing in number here......

There used to be a brewery here...in dunkirk ny...called...koch......pronounced...COOK.............that`s what I go on....but I`ve also heard it said in different ways......one guy was bragging about how he and his dad really enjoyed "coches..golden aniversary"...(after the brewery went belly up and someone bought the name...swill)..we couldn`t figure out what the hell he was talking about....when we finally did......yeuhhhk!....sorry.a little o/t...[stick]

It depends on who you are and where you come from. I would bet that somone on the set suggested pornouncing it "cock" and the censor whined, "Could you please say "Johnson" instead? We can say that on TV."

I agree that one of the the German pronounciations, close to but not exactly "coke", is correct.

By the way, "pornouncing" wasn't a typo...
