Illegal immigrants, illegal drugs, and thousands of dollars. That's what Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers found a week ago when they did an operation along I-40.
The goal of the operation is to stop any kind of illegal activity, whether it be drugs or drunk drivers or illegal immigrants.
During this task force operation, according to the United States Border Patrol they arrested 78 illegal immigrants.
They were stopped by DPS here in Amarillo along I-40.
Border patrol tells us the illegal immigrants they arrested were from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
"Most were sent back to Mexico, some have been held for further processing, we actually apprehended a total of 78 of deportable or removable foreign nationals including 9 smugglers, the 9 smugglers will be charged with smuggling and they will be prosecuted," said Bill Brooks from the Border Patrol.
Also, during these four days, DPS seized 620 pounds of Marijuana, about 26 pounds of Cocaine, four pounds of Methamphetamine and more than $200,000 of currency.
