Should Senators or any other elected official have to quit their seat in order to run for POTUS ?
I know if I or any other peasant were to try and take that much time off from our jobs to run we would be fired. Basically, these shitheads are getting full pay with benefits all while NOT doing the job they were elected to do. |
I'm sure half of the guys running for president are just doing it for the time off. Did Joe Biden or Christopher Dodd really think they were going to get the nomination? Or were they just finding a way to get out of work?
Being the hozbag that she is... Hildabeast has special privileges.. she ain't gonna quit nothin...
I say make em quit their office and a selection process should take place allowing them to cherry pick another corrupt sob to take their place.
If these pieces of shit had to quit it would make them think twice about running.
And that's a good thing. Politics should NOT be a carreer. TERM LIMITS FOR ALL POLITICIANS !!!! |
Agreed. |
You should have to quit ANY political office to run for a different one
Yes. Think about it. How many other careers will essentially let you not do your job for (in some cases) over a year? I can't think of any other than politician.
I agree that there should be term limits for ALL politicians. I sure think the two main parties would change a LOT if that were the case. |
100%. If I told my boss I wasn't going to show up for work because I wanted to run for POTUS he would take that as my resignation.
They should yes, or at the very least receive no benefits/payment for the time they are running.
I mean if I told my boss I was going to take about a year off work to go look for a better job, and tell him I expect to receive all my pay and health care, he's laugh his ass off...then fire me. |
Yes, and they should also be paid less than LEO's and School Teachers.

What was the reasoning behind changing to electing Senators as opposed to the Founding Father's established, State appointment of Senators?
I don't know the pros and cons of Senators being appointed, but had this been the case with an individual such as Larry "Wide stance" Craig, he could have been recalled by the State and a new Senator appointed. |
Yes, when do they have time to do the job they were hired for. If they don't then they have a forfeiture of pay of the days they weren't doing their jobs!!!
Good! The less time they are at work, the less time they have to fuck up our country by passing more stupid ass laws |
I think yes.
I believe that when Lieberman ran as Gore's VP he was running a campaign for senate re-election at the very same time. (he won one out of two elections) |
hell yes. how the hell are they doing their job when they are campaigning all over the country?
Yes they should have to resign to run for another office.
Kerry was the worst. He was up for reelection to the Senate at the same time he was running for pres. He was on the ballot for both offices. What a POS! |
Once it goes past a certain point they should resign or drop out of the race. We're way past that point IMHO. Same goes for those asked to be VP of the POTUS nominees. Quit your current position or don't run.
Absolutely. Running for President is a full time job in itself and the business of running our country is much too important to be neglected by someone who is off campaigning.
Yes, Could you take a year off trying to get another job, then go back if you didn't get it? Neither should they
BIG FAT YES
They get to have their cake and eat it too. Not Fair |
YES , PLEASE. And then they shouldn't be able to run for office for one term....
Yep! |
No. Do you quit your job before looking for a new one? Not much happens during election years in the senate, anyway.
ummmmmm, no, but they are being paid while NOT doing their job. |
They shouldn't be forced to... Look at it realistically - Congress SHUTS DOWN during an election year so that members may campaign for their seats... So if they were not running for POTUS they would be running for their seat (or for Senators, taking time off while a significant portion of their co-workers are campaigning).... No real difference... It's up to the Senator in question as to weather he needs to campaign for his seat or not... Bob gave up his seat in the Senate because (a) he was nearing retirement, and (b) he couldn't campaign for both at the same time... Respectively, he should have stayed in the Senate.... |
During an election year, their 'Job' is to campaign anyways... |
Yes, still getting paid by tax payer money to campaign, not what they're SUPPOSE to be doing. And if they want to get back into it the have to be re-elected by starting the process as if they were first running for the office.
I'll take "ways to get paid without working" for $400, Alex.
It disgusts me when I see anybody campaigning full time while "holding" another elected office. |
Yes they should. I don't pay them to go trapsing all over the country telling lies about themselves to try to get elected. They are overpaid as it is.
