So I'll reproduce it here.

Should people who bought HD-DVD players get a refund?

Of course not. If you waste your money on something useless, that's your own mistake.

Nope.

Want the newest stuff, end up with useless stuff.

I'm going to sue Sony because my PS3 won't play Xbox 360 games that I want

Fuck no.

Some of us listen to Frost7 and Troy, and other people bought HD-DVD.

Early adopter of HD-DVD here.

No.

Knew the possibility of getting burned, I'll deal with it.

No. Almost bought HD-DVD addon player for the 360 and I'm glad I didn't (obviously).

Buying a format that doesn't catch on is all part of the early adopter tax.

Should those who bought A-Tracks over Tape-decks get refunds? VHS or Beta? No? You got burned. Bummer.

I have both formats and don't regret purchasing it.

who are the 3 that voted yes?
Link Posted: 6/6/2008 12:51:38 PM EDT
[#18]
Nah. Best Buy offered me $50 to spend on something new, so I bought a new photo printer, but that was their choice.

I made the decision to "get both" and buy an inexpensive HD-DVD player in addition to my PS3, to cover myself no matter which format was chosen.

Buying before a standard is decided upon is a crapshoot.  You can store the HD DVD with the Betamax you have in the corner.

HD-DVD owner here.

I love my HD-DVD player and the 15 movies I have. I am a learned person and I knew there was a format war going on and I bought the movies I love and feel it was more than worth the price to get the quality HD movie experience my HD-DVD system gives me.

I'll never ask for a refund. Now, if they'll just put some decent Spielberg/Lucasfilm movies in Blu-Ray!

I thought it was an 8 track, you know, because it had eight tracks on the tape.  No?

Bought HD-DVD player, am still happy with it for upconverting regular DVDs, don't want or expect a refund (although Amazon.com gave me $50 back without me asking).

I knew there was a format war, I took a risk, and that's life. I have to admit though I expected the format war to go on another year and didn't expect Sony to buy/bribe their way to victory so quickly.

1. Stash HD-DVD player in a safe place
2. Wait for 20 years.
3. Sell player on eBay for an obscene amount of money
4. PROFIT!

They knew the risks.  They chose wrong.  It's as simple as that.
