Not saying I'm for it just curious. Is it inevitable? Would it cause gasoline shortages? Will the Dems cap the price and would that cause shortages? Will Barrack our savior do it?
Discuss....... |
The dems would have to do it, thus it will not happen. The tards would Nationalize and tap our domestic stock in a heartbeat however if they thought they could get away with it.
Agreed. Just wondering if and when it will happen |
Didn't Bubba Clinton tap the strategic reserve at some point leading to like one cent being lowered at the pump price? |
I bet they will |
Bubba Clinton stopped ANWR from being tapped during his administration because "the oil was still 10 years away"...well that was like 12 years ago. |

Wouldn't it be more sensible to subsidize the development of alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar, to ensure a stabler future for the energy-supply? Why invest more resources to a supply that is dying?
Will it happen? I think so, too many stupid people in this country that think the answer to every problem is government. Will it help? Fuck no, it will make a bad situation much worse. |
No but it would be better to build nuke plants, drill, develop oil shale and coal. |
It won't work out well for them politically, if they do. Going from "Gas is expensive" to " I can't get any F@#$%^$* gas!" is a big jump in the wrong direction. |
I wonder how much oil consumption would go down if everyone used a purely electric car for their daily commute, and we had cheap, clean electricity through expansion of nuclear power.
The bottom would fall out of the oil market… we could do a large part of that over a 10-20 years IF we had the will. |
You are going to pay the same price either way......just in a different form
Wind, ok, solar at our current tech, no. It is a very energy intensive proposal to build solar panels, you have to use them for many years to break even. Build more nukes, round up the militant tree huggers and make them live in the pristine ANWAR, they can tounge kiss polar bears or something. I would like to see a huge push to perfect nuclear fusion though. |
+1 Why don't they subsidize my A/C bill during the summer? You can always put on an extra coat during the winter. |
Fixed it. |
Are you talking about the government providing an incentive to oil companies to produce more, the way they subsidize ethanol production? All I keep hearing about is a 'windfall profit tax' AGAINST oil companies so I'm not holding my breath for the government to start propping up oil companies. |
This isn't making sense..
Back in the 20th century the government subsidised milk production so the milk producers would make enough to stay in business but the price wouldn't be so high that nobody could afford it.. We don't have to subsidize the oil production companies because they are making enough to stay in business.. Are you saying the gubment should step in and buy the oil.. then reduce the price so we could afford it.?. the tax payer would have to make up for that loss so we would pay for it one way or the other.. |
I'd LOVE an electric car. With a 40-50 mile range, it would be MORE than enough for me to get to work and back. Use cheap and clean nuclear power to power the cars (and homes) and voila! I'd imagine there's "certain" companies out there that would hate it if I cut my gas use by oh...90% |
Right after they nationalize the oil industry. That is the democrats game plan as part of the NEW New Deal.
They would have to give back all they make on it first. Which is a hell of a lot more than the oil companies make.
Abso-fuckin-lutely. I'd keep my SUV for going to the range, hauling stuff, whatever, but a tank of gas in it would last forever if I had a little electric car to commute in. |

Diesel prices will soar
Trucking companies will get fed up and park their trucks Shelves will be empty Home invasions/roberies will ensue I will defend my home The libs will ban guns for our safety Isn't it all a vicious circle? FUCK! Pump Colorado ANWR and offshore. We can save the caribou and other wildlife with the money we will save on foreign oil. FUCK! |
huh, wtf ? why would we want them to do that? don't we pay enough taxes now?
Think about that a minute.... if the Goverment subsidizes the cost of oil, where is that money coming from other then us taxpayers.... crap let's let the goverment get involved and add all thier overhead costs and fees. How that makes a lot of sense. Guess no one remembers the early 70's when the Arabs did a lil oil embargo.... gas rationing, odd-even days you could get gas. Remember it's not that there isn't enough oil, there are too many people... Opps, the demo-socialists don't like to hear that one.... |
I would say that the amount of oil consumed would not go down at all. The rate at which the demand is increasing would go down but I think even if we returned to a 1980's level of consumption, the oil companies would still be happy. The transportation industry alone in this country would keep the oil companies happy for years. |
Yea right it is "certain" companies that keep us from building nuke plants... but then they don't do they. |
I want to state for the record I DO NOT support this or think it is a good idea but one has to surmise the topic will be brought up......and soon.
That's exactly why I said "Wouldn't it be more sensible to subsidize the development of alternative energy sources", as in help make them better |
Electric cars are fine, but can you afford to go buy a $15000 car today?
Nuke power is fine too, until they want to build one in your back yard, or dispose of the waste near you. Gotta think farther ahead guys. |
Are you counting the current subsidies / mil supprt / security etc????
Probably...If I'm saving $300 a month in gas prices. |
No. Necessity is the mother of invention, not the government. When people get sick of paying for the benefits of oil based combustion, another technology (that actually works) will be born. |
I would love to see gas rationing come back. I would literally make a fortune. My Escort has a 12 gallon tank and I can make that last for two months or longer if I have to. I'd still buy my rationed 10 gallons per week and sell it all to somebody who has to have it. I think double what I paid for it is reasonable. Supply and demand, don'tchaknow.
*FTR, I know rationing would be a disaster, but I would have no qualms from profiting from it. If they're stupid enough to try it, I'm smart enough to take advantage. |
What is your suggestion? Just like those silly engergy commercials where these yahoos say that the oil companies must do more than oil? Yet, they have no ideas. Only someone else must come up with it. I got nothing other than what we have available today. |
