I have wanted one since I was a kid. I have had several 1911's in the past, but not an honest-to-goodness WW2 GI 1911A1. I know they are not cheap for a decent example, but some of the ones on Gunbroker are WAY overpriced. |

My late-war Remington Rand is one of my favorite handguns. It's 100% reliable, very accurate, and in great shape.
Every gun collection should have a WW2 1911A1  Edited to add a picture because PEABR332 said so

Damn man, you're a few years and two matching LLama's Late. I know some fucktard that traded a WWII that had been in his family for years for two consecutive serial LLama's. I found out after, had I known he was going to do that, I'd have bought the thing off him.

Wow, when I first read this I thought it said 1919A1. Then DK-Prof got taking about using it as a handgun. I thought "man he is a beast" Then I re-read it and relized that I am retarded.
I do want both a 1911 and a 1919, just got to wait till the next funshow. |

No....I am prepared to pay what a good one is worth, I have seen good examples going for around $1100.00 or so....but it's been awhile. I'm sure the prices are only headed in one direction, so I don't want to keep putting it off forever, ya know? |

When you were describing what you were looking for, I thought it sounded very much like mine. It's not "collectible" in any way, because it's an arsenal mix-match, with a RR frame and a Colt slide, and while it has some finish wear, it's in great mechanical condition and has seen very little shooting use, as far as I can tell. So it's a great shooter, with that WW2 "history" but run-of-the-mill enough to just use at the range. Every once in a while I look around for a Remindton Rand slide, just to make it more "correct", but it's not really a big deal to me. I like it fine the way it is. |

I have a Singer Sewing Machine 1911 that I'd be willing to part with, and it sounds like just what you're looking for. That rough finish was kinda pissing me off, so I redid it with some cold blue from the wal-mart down the street, and it looks dandy! I did nick up the slide a little bit when I tried to dovetail it for new sights, though... Just IM me an offer and we'll talk.

I used to be a glock nut, but I picked up a Auto Ordnance 1911-A1. My buddy and I hand fitted the slide to the frame, bobbed the hammer just enough not to bite, and re-parked it. My dad ended up with it because he wanted something that was a 45 and wouldn't be as snappy as his G23.
Now I've come back to 1911s again. No A1s, but a nice lightweight Commander and a Kimber Pro-Carry II in stainless.

One of the "kids" that works in my Warehouse was given a Colt M1911A1 by his Grandmother's "friend" the other day. He brought it to work and I about fell over when he told me how he got it.
Seems Granny's "friend" is a 50's Gay Male and had a "partner" who went to prison and left it at the gay guy's house. Gay Guy said he's had it for several years and that prison boy is out but no longer in the State. He told my warehouse guy that he "hates guns" and has thought about "throwing it in the trash several times..." Warehouse guy tells him he'll "dispose" of it properly and brings it to work to ask me if it's worth anything.... I call my Brother-In-Law (LEO) to run the #'s and it comes back clean... I tell warehouse guy it's been used in a murder and that I'll give him $100 for it right now... He declines and says that since his Glock was stolen a year ago he's been wanting to get another pistol, and doesn't care that it's "dirty"  I'm currently looking for a very cheap Glock to offer him a trade!  - Clint |

Remington Rand slide GB auction It looks refinished at some point. Even still it looks to be in rough shape. Maybe it's just the photo. ETA: Then there is this one My "one that got away" story: I had the chance at grabbing an all correct 1943 RR pistol at Gander Mtn. for $950 bucks. It was well used as they usually are but otherwise in great mechanical condition. I didn't have the money.

Here's my Great Uncles Remington 1941 1911A1. He carried as a MP during the war and for 20 years as a ATF agent.
He gave it to my grandfather for protection and he gave it to me shortly be before he passed away.  |

Prices are only going up. Maybe 10 years I decided I wanted a 1911A-1,too. A knowledgeable friend helped me pick out a mint Colt,'43 made. i had to dig deep to come up with the $500 it cost me. Now what are they going for? Of course, once I got that, I had to get all the correct accessories for it-holsters (there are a number of different types-belt and shoulder), pistol belts, mag pouches, lanyards, correct mags,etc.

Just be patient and hound GunBroker. I did this for a while and got a Remington Rand/Ithaca slide 1911A1 for $800-something. Finish ain't great but it's not been bubbaized at all.

Here's one of mine. Traded it for a NIB Ruger Vaquero in .45LC It was carried in the Army by the friend that I traded with.
BTW, it is a Colt. My other (no photo) I got from a guy at work. It was issued new to his father back during WWII, and he carried it as an MP after the war in Germany. He even remembers the day his Dad brought it home and took it out of the box and shot it for the first time.

buy a new Springfield Armory GI M1911A1 instead, modern forged steel get something you can shoot all day without worrying about breaking something I made the mistake of buying a WWII German P38 and used it as a shooter and it BROKE! WWII M1911A1 are collector's items [safe queens] |
