For those who carry a concealed weapon, do you carry a backup gun regularly? What is your BUG?
I do not, but I will eventually as funds allow. I'm thinking a hammerless J-frame.
Beretta 21A Bobcat.
Designed and produced by a secretive race of cat-people who walk upright, have opposable thumbs and possess a knack for devising quality arms, the 21A is a great back-up piece. |
Sometimes, and its a hammerless j frame 38. In an ankle holster if wearing pants, in the front pocket if wearing shorts
Beretta Tomcat. Makes a nice little BUG, and is also easily concealed in an evening gown or other skimpy clothes. Fits well in a little evening bag, too.
It's the gun I had on my thigh when I got married! |
oh god.. you have crabs?! so sorry.. |
No crabs, just a little .380 |
...with Crimson Trace grips on it. You'll thank me. |
I carry a Ruger LCP .380 when I am unable to carry anything else, but I don't carry it as a BUG in addition to my carry gun.
ETA: I also have a S&W 642 hammerless. |
I would carry a BUG if I could. NM concealed carry is limited to one gun.
I don't see a need. But I'm not in a high risk profession either.
Ah,but which ones-the rubber overmolded or the hard polymer models? I'm debating this for my .357 SP101. |
Sometimes. And sometimes my BUG is my primary.
I have a Kel-Tec P32 and a Taurus 905 (Taurus 85 in 9mm, discontinued) that I use in that role, as pocket pistols. |
As I live in the nearly communist state of WI - we don't get to carry concealed, much less a backup concealed weapon.
If my Glock 19 fails when I need it most then I think its just my time to go.
I have never had it fail at the range in thousands of rounds. |
The rubber overmolded ones are better and actually more concealable than the hard polymer ones. |
Kel-Tec P3AT in front right pocket inside a pocket holster from pocketholsters.com. Spare mag in left front pocket.
Same, except in a cheapie Uncle Mike's. Thanks for the pocketholsters address, the only thing the UM does is block the trigger, doesn't hold shape at all to break up the outline. Usually it's my primary though, I carry an XD9 or BHP for primary when I can. |
i have 2, S&W j frame 638 body guard style frame and a kelt tech p3at. i have both of them on me along with my normal CCW.
its just like my AMEX card i dont leave home with out it. Ronald |
No but I'm thinking about a picking up a Ruger LCP for just such a purpose.
I always, and I mean always have my Kahr PM9 (6+1) on my body with a spare 7 rd mag and SOG folding knife.
When I leave home there is a Glock 30 in the truck with 2 spare mags. So at this point I have access to 2 guns. The glock is my truck gun so I don't have an awkward draw from my holster. When I get to work I also have a Glock 21 with 2 spare mags, so at this point I have access to 3 guns. Sometimes I also carry on my body a S&W Model 60, but in AZ in the heat wearing just shorts and a shirt it gets hard to hide 2 guns. I need another Kel-Tec for a BUG, but I gave mine to my dad. |
I love my little S&W 342. If your going wtih the .357, the 101 is prolly a wise move. I like the rubber overmolded. |
I don't but I am looking for a good back up wheel gun. |
A lot of guys poo-poo the idea of carrying a BUG. Those are guys who have probably never had a weapon poop the bed on them when they need it. As BUGs go, the light weight S&W J frames are pretty much the best of the breed currently. They are powerful, reliable, and VERY capable, especially with CT grips mounted on them. |
Definately Rubber Overmold.... the hard polymer don't give you the added comfort for recoil or the space for your pinky. |
When your hands are a registered deadly weapon, as are mine, you dont need a BUG.
If I feel that I need to carry a BUG, it is a Kel-tec PF9, it also serves as my primary when carrying my G17 is not feasible.
Mine is a jam o matic |
Im happy with the hard polymer I got at the NRA event in Ky...zeroed it in to hit a soup can at 25 feet....38 j frame. Im happy, about $150 invested I think... |
sometimes.. High Standard DM-101 |
I'll give you the pinky...but recoil???? WTF??? Im 180 lb male...so, maybe Im jumping the "gun" The only recoil I have a time with in my limited handgun collection is 454 casull hot loads by corbon... |
i usually have a primary and backup. both of them are not on my person at all time
I don't carry one....yet.
I'm thinking Glock36 in either a pocket holster or ankle holster. |
Nope. I probably should, and may someday, but I don't have the $$ for it. This is what my CCW instructors recommended (Utah Highway Patrol guys) for everyday carry.
Primary + spare reload/mag (2 depending on gun) Backup + spare reload/mag Good pepper spray Good flashlight Cell Phone Permit |
Have you tried a variety of ammo? I've found a few brands and types that give it trouble but with Federal or Remington bilk plated ammo it's great. |
