I'm not really concerned about Obama curtailing our rights to own assault weapons, because I don't really see that as being a huge issue. There's been a sizeable increase in the purchase of assault weapons since the assault weapons ban sunsetted. More people are aware of the issue and have a stake in it as well than back in 1994. The large number of members on this forum is a testament to that. Also with Heller being heard by the Supreme Court, I'm not really concerned that more anti-gun legislation will be accepted should the Heller case have a ruling in our favor. On that level, I'm not really worried about Obama taking our guns.
Sure. This is a gun forum. But the 2nd was written to protect all of our other rights written under the constitution. It wasn't inserted into the constitution so we could go hunting or bump-firing with our friends at the range on the weekends.
Look at where we are today. GW has effectively eroded and degraded a lot of our constitutional rights. Post 9/11, Congress passed the Patriot Act granting the executive branch abilities to circumvent previous checks and balances. I'm sure people here will bark that such legislation is necessary to protect the children from the terrorists.
But recognize that similar legislation was created after the Reichstag Fire of 1933. Except in that case, Hitler had set fire to his own building in order to pass legislation essentially granting him the position of dictator.
I'm not saying 9/11 was an inside job. I am saying that our constitutional rights are effectively being eroded. That's the status quo and it's not getting much better.
Now look at the candidates. We have McCain, Clinton and Obama. McCain and Clinton are more of the status quo. Don't you find it funny that we've had a Bush or a Clinton in the White House since 1988? That's 20 years! Clinton would offer nothing new to help the American people. And on the issue of McCain...McCain is another 4 years of GW Bush. If you don't agree, look at his voting record. He's essentially voted along with Bush on every issue in the past year.
I'd liken Clinton very similar to McCain in that they parrot the same issues over and over again. However, all of these are simply talking points. Their arguments are superficial soundbites. They're puppets for their corporate backers. And let me tell you that while they pander to their corporate backers, they don't really give a shit about you, the American people.
McCain and Hillary are more concerned about filling the coffers of their sponsors. They support NAFTA at the expense of American jobs. And although McCain is a Republican, he has backed anti-gun laws. It would be unwise and utterly ignorant to support McCain solely because he's a Republican. It would be equally unwise to support Hillary because she's a democrat or a woman.
You could make the argument that it would be unwise to support Obama because he's black and a democrat, but I would disagree. Race has nothing to do with ability to lead this country.
For the racists on this forum, GW made it pretty clear that White Supremacy is a myth. So please keep the ignorant watermelon references to yourselves.
Also...to the individuals making strawman attacks on my character. Please actually think about the issues and what I have to say than critique my arguments just based on my username. I have never toked up. The last time I imbibed alcohol was August 8th, 2006 - so the whole concept of negating my logic based on my non-existent potsmoking/intoxicating tendencies won't fly.
