P.G. county - it figures.  That place is an arm-pit.  All the crime pushed out of D.C. from high honme prices spills into P.G. (not that D.C. does not still have TONS of criminals to go around - one of them even sits on the city council).

Most vehicles are actually creating small explosions using the right air-fuel mixture as they move down the highway.

Thanks, I read that one.  I thought you had one where they were saying that a real MANPAD was involved (not that I believe that this one wasn't ).

C-4 is not tannerite or fireworks.  Sounds like al quada wannabees stupidly leaving explosives behind in a stolen car.  Something is about to happen soon.  It wont happen at military post. It will happen in a school Beslan style.  According to recent intelligence cited in swat mag, islamic terrorists are targeting schools "where the girls are old enough to rape and the boys too young to fight back"  Then again it could be some dumb LEO/Military type who left some c-4 in the trunk of his car that got screw driver started and taken for a joy ride (OOOOPS)

Yeah, the C4 find really changes things.  Does anyone know if C4 has taggants in it so it can be traced to origin?

Pr. George's Police Investigate Explosive Material in Deserted Car

Prince George's County Police have teamed up with Air Force investigators to determine the nature of bomb-making materials that were found in a car about a block away from Andrews Air Force Base early Wednesday.

Prince George's County police found explosive material in a deserted car near Andrews Air Force Base this morning and are working with federal investigators to determine the source of the material, authorities said.

Shortly after 6 a.m., police were alerted to a black Nissan Altima with no license plates parked on Dower House Road in Upper Marlboro, said Cpl. Diane Richardson. Police determined the car had been stolen and called on federal law enforcement officials, including military investigators, to examine the explosive material, packaged in units small enough to fit in the palm of a hand, Richardson said. Police found raw material but no detonation devices, authorities said.

Jeramis McFadden, an investigator from Air Force Office of Special Investigations, said his office was called in to examine the site. "We're just here to take some pictures," he said.

local forum chatter:

Dower House Road Shut Down

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -- A bomb squad is investigating after police found explosives in a stolen car on Dower House Road in Upper Marlboro.

The road was closed for several hours Wednesday morning while law enforcement officials investigated.

A black Nissan was reported stolen months ago and ended up at a salvage yard on the road, News4's Megan McGrath reported.

Someone from the salvage yard was cleaning Wednesday morning when she found two fist-size packages in the vehicle labeled "explosives," McGrath said.

Authorities said the packages contained raw explosive materials. They had not been assembled into a device and there was no detonator, authorities said.

Sources said at least some of the materials belong to the military. The Department of Defense was called to take possession of those materials.

Residents who live on Dower House Road returned home to find the barricade, and some were stuck for quite some time, McGrath said.

The explosive materials and car have been removed from the scene and the road has reopened.
