Don't know if you've seen this organization, but it is a Christian men's group that focuses on how tough it is to be a man in today's world or something.

The thing that kills me is these stupid bumper stickers that I see on their cars.  They say "I love my Wife".

Why on earth they feel the need to brag about something that they are supposed to do is beyond me.  you don't see me with a bumper sticker that says "I pay my bills" or "I feed my dog".  You're supposed to love your wife.  You get no points from me for telling the world about it.

It's simple.
A bunch of LOSERS, who seek positive affirmation, by lumping themselves together with a bunch of like minded losers.
For the weak minded/weak spirited.

If you NEED someone or something to TELL you how a man acts and conducts himself, you ain't one.

Are there Promise Keepers on here?  I would seriously like to hear from them if there are.

In an age of moral relativism,  Promise Keepers is an organization that encourages men to stand up and lead their families from a spiritual perspective as the Bible instructs....... one could make the case that this is largely missing from many families today.

ETA:  I've never been to a meeting and am not involved with PK.

So why do they need to brag about doing stuff they are supposed to be doing?

I have never seen a "I don't beat my kids" sticker, but I'm thinking of selling one.

Some people need rules and a program.

Some people had shitty dads and have no idea how to treat women.  Those people may have a genuine need for a program or positive role models.

If the program is moderately difficult, they will fail and come back for more because of the guilt associated with failure.

I've never understood promise keepers.  As Mr. Chris Rock says, "You want a cookie?!"

I've also noted a nearly 1 to 1 correlation between an "I love my Wife" bumper sticker and a passenger seat occupied by sour faced woman pushing 300 lbs.  YMMV

But, I've been told that I have a low tolerance for deviancy, and that I'm an unsympathetic jerk.

Divorce rates are over 50% and 80% of those divorces are initiated by women. It is necessary for some men to councel one another in being good spirtual leaders so as not lose their families. If you are married then you know already that marriage isn't easy.

I'm not a member of promise keepers but my uncle is and it helped save his marriage.

My understanding, which is week, and not based on any meetings, is that they believe in being a Husband and a Father (in their belief, their God given roles)- part of which is being the head of the household and being morally responsible for the household.  I suspect it is like saying I love my children, therefore I discipline them.  They are saying I love my wife, they are implying that they are doing what is necessary for their family so she can focus on being a wife and a mother - the roles they feel God intended for her.

I have gone to a PK meeting/convention, it was in Denver around '99.  It wasn't my thing, but there were about 60k guys who were there that it was their thing.  Some people want or need direction on how to become better men while strengthening their relationship with God.  For me, there was a lot of good stuff and a small portion of it got too huggy/crying/blech for my tastes.

I guess there are a lot worse things that guys could be doing with their time than trying to improve themselves and their families.

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe we DO need an ad campaign.  A bumper sticker reading: "I pay my bills"  It might just catch on.  And then, once we get a larger percentage of the population thinking it's cool to pay their rent/meet their obligations , we could move on to: "I have a job"  Hmm.  Ok, so I got it backwards.  I'm sure y'all are smart enough to figure it out.  What if...ah well, I'll quite day dreaming about a responsible society.

I've never even come close to not loving my wife, but I've known plenty of guys who have fucked around on their wives because they lacked the discipline to do the right thing when faced with an opportunity to do something else.

Anyway, what do you care if they are proud enough about loving their wives to plaster stickers about it all ovcer their cars?

And bumpers are for two purposes:

1) Low speed impact protection
2) Bumper stickers

I think you hit the nail on the head.
People who actually pay their bills are probably in the minority, as are men who actually love their wives.
(Just read a few posts on here.)
My experience is that lots of men who are married don't love their wives.
(Or, they may say they do, but not live like it.)

I've attended several Promise Keeper conferences.
(So yeah, I'm simple-mined. Gee, I think I've heard Christians called that before on Arfcom. )
I'm a Christian, and look at a PK conference an opportunity to get away once a year, and regain my focus on what it means to be a Christian husband, dad, brother, etc.

Being a Promise Keeper just means that you will try to live by 7 promises:

Seven Promises of a Promise Keeper

PROMISE 1
A Promise Keeper is committed to honoring Jesus Christ through worship, prayer and obedience to God's Word in the power of the Holy Spirit.
PROMISE 2
A Promise Keeper is committed to pursuing vital relationships with a few other men, understanding that he needs brothers to help him keep his promises.
PROMISE 3
A Promise Keeper is committed to practicing spiritual, moral, ethical, and sexual purity.
PROMISE 4
A Promise Keeper is committed to building strong marriages and families through love, protection and biblical values.
PROMISE 5
A Promise Keeper is committed to supporting the mission of his church by honoring and praying for his pastor, and by actively giving his time and resources.
PROMISE 6
A Promise Keeper is committed to reaching beyond any racial and denominational barriers to demonstrate the power of biblical unity.
PROMISE 7
A Promise Keeper is committed to influencing his world, being obedient to the Great Commandment (see Mark 12:30-31) and the Great Commission (see Matthew 28:19-20).

Mark 12:30-31
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. (NIV)

Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (NIV)

I've seen several guys pick up the "I (heart) my wife." bumper stickers at the conferences. I don't have one.
I love my wife, but I don't put stickers on my vehicles.
