One of the main problems with this dispute is how the seller allegedly resorted to immediate, very serious threats, thus shutting down communication. I would think that a law enforcement officer would have more sense than to imply (even mention his job) that his position as a police officer might confer a special benefit over what is essentially a civil matter (since there is apparently no evidence of criminal intent). Also the allegation that the seller demanded the money AND his rifle is concerning. ("If certified funds are in my P.O. Box on Friday, I'll postpone my appointment with the IG until I receive the rifle"). Presumably, once the seller had the money, he would have NO entitlement to the rifle. In saying this, I do not wish to disparage either party. Instead, I would ask that discourse involving such transactions be kept civil. A simple application of the golden rule gentlemen. All this being said, deltree clearly needs to make this situation right quickly. Inadvertently or not, he has apparently deprived the seller of funds that are rightfully his.
