I get my invoice the other day, and I see a charge of 34.99 towards a CCbill.com site. I couldn't remeber ever using it on that site. I call up the number and find out that it was a subscription to a series of porn sites (called porn king). Now, I have nothing against pornography. I think most of the guys on this site spent their adolescent years appreciating the fine pictorials of playboy and penthouse. But the fact is, I only use my credit card for fast equipment purchases (usually over the net, which might explain how it got out.) Naturally, I cancelled the subscription, locked that account out of anyother subscriptions to that company's sites and called up for a new acount number and to report. But since the charge was under 50 dollars, I'm stuck paying for some other jerk's porn.

Now what? The thing is, all the sites that I made purchases on were supposedly encrypted (little lock icon in the corner of the window). Should I get one of those AmExpress blue cards? I do use that card semifrequently as it's faster than snailmail and safer than my bankcard, where you are ALWAYS responsible for the amount charged.

Exactly!  Cracking 128bit SSL isn't trivial.  However, if your browsers settings only support 40bit SSL, then that may be the problem.  Still, it's much easier to break into the back-end database than it is to intercept and decrypt the information on the fly.

If it was dumpster diving (i doubt it) it certainly wasn't at my house. My shepard/golden retriever mix sees to that, as well as my coketeil, who goes beserk at any strange sounds. And I don't think any of my invoices 'scaped shredding. But what about those cards that give you a temporary number for each and every purhase. Do they take much time? Time is the key.
