from NRA Alert this morning:
---------------- Wal-Mart To Create Gun Buyer Database Friday, April 18, 2008 Recently, Wal-Mart joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg at a gathering of Bloomberg’s anti-gun group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, to announce a series of changes to the way in which Wal-Mart handles firearm transactions. At the press event, J.P. Suarez, chief compliance officer for Wal-Mart Stores Inc., said: “The costs are, we think, part of what it takes to be responsible.” Suarez also added, "This is not a signal that we're getting out of firearms." Once these changes are up and running, firearm purchases at Wal-Mart will involve a video record of the sale, which the store will keep on file -- effectively creating a video database of gun purchasers. In addition, Wal-Mart announced that its employees will be given discretion to deny firearms purchases to anyone who has had a firearm traced by BATFE for any reason -- including those who have had a firearm stolen and later used in criminal activity. Wayne LaPierre, NRA Executive Vice President, said, “I view it as a public relations stunt that stigmatizes law-abiding firearms purchasers exercising their constitutional freedoms. I honestly think it's a corporation trying to curry favor with politicians as opposed to doing anything meaningful about stopping crime.” If you’d like to let Wal-Mart know what you think about their new policy, please contact them by phone, at (800) 925-6278; or electronically, at http://www.walmartstores.com/contactus/feedback.aspx. ---------------------------- I've already registered my opinion with them - lets load up their comment que with our thoughts! Please copy the above to as many other boards as you belong to. I'm on my way to do that now. |

Wal-Mart only sells "Special Purchase" guns anyway...
"Special Purchase" = factory seconds and re-works. Go to a real gun shop. |
I'm still amazed this myth is going around. |
I've bought a firearm at WalMart ONCE in my life, and since many of their stores either don't carry firearms at all anymore, or carry stuff I have no interest in, I have to admit I don't care a whole lot about this.
If anything, creating additional cost to themselves of selling guns will just lead to them getting completely out of the firearms business sooner. |
I'm still amazed by WM apologists who deny it. |
How long do you think it will be before other large chain stores that sell guns are pressured into a similar system now that Wal-Mart has agreed to do it? |
so those security cameras by the gun area prior to now were fakes eh? This is the dumbest shit ever to get hot and bothered about. |
Piss on Wal Mart. I don't buy anything there if I can help it. They are simply kissing up to the libs in hopes of looking "good" to Obama victims and Clinton brainwashees.

bingo. And dont just not shop for guns there. Dont shop for ANYTHING there. |
Although current construction stores are required to have video cameras, as of 2006 there was no requirement to actually record the video, as opposed to just using it as CCTV. |

Wal-Mart doesn't sell "evil" guns!
I was told that only "assault rifles" and handguns are teh evil! |
I just got my Notice from the NRA, read it, and sent an E-Mail off to Wally World
I did that without coming to this site first, right after I sent the E-Mail, I came here and see this Thread Glad to see People send E-Mails to the Peoples Republic of China, err um Wal-Mart I really don't think Wally World gives a Shit was us Gun Owners think, Wal-Mart has more Power than the US Government, and the US Government doesn't Care what Gun Owners think anymore, IMHO, and that is Sad. If Wally World Protested the Olympics, then China would listen, after all, Wally World has given the Money that China needed to buy most of America and Build Chinas Military back up. But I did send Wally World the E-Mail, it's a shame that American People can't stop buying Chinese Products from Wally World for just ONE DAY ! I wonder just how much Money Wal-Mart makes in ONE Day from all of their Stores Combined Bob |

It may be up to JimmyBoy the 20 yr old WAL-MART employee of the month that get to decide if you get that new shotgun, yea |

Write a letter to Wal-Mart's CEO and tell him why you're refusing to shop at Wal-Mart. A few hundred thousand letters will get his attention. H. Lee Scott, Jr. President and CEO Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Bentonville, Arkansas 72716-8611 |

The video record is only one small component of the initiative. Did you read the other thread? |

Cite your sources Pale_pony, otherwise I call complete and utter BS |

According to LAWDOG's blog, it's a felony if Walmart actually does this.

Wal-Mart isn't going to access any crime gun database. When the ATF contacts them for 4473 trace purchase info they will send the info along with the video transaction to the ATF. Then they will flag the purchaser's name in their system and will deny any future purchases by that person. I don't see how that violates federal law? |
I wrote them a nasty letter. |
ok, so all those recorded videos of shoplifters they use in court are... what? made up? |
Having name brand companies make a lower quality/less expensive product exclusvely for WalMart is a pretty well known practice. If they do it for jeans and lawnmowers, why would guns be any different? |
What other chains stores are there that still sell guns? Serious. The only chain stores around here are Walmart, KMart and Target. There are currently no Walmarts within 150 miles of me that sell guns anymore and the other two stopped years ago. Thus, like DK, I can't get all excited about them doing something extra for something they don't even do anymore. |
One of the few hundred THOUSAND reasons not to shop at Walmart.
I bought a Winchester model 70 on my 18 birth day from Wal Mart, a week later it completely fell apart. |
BIG FUCKING DEAL
Anyone remember the VIRGINIA TECH SHOOTER? After it was over the media showed VIDEO IMAGES of his GUN PURCHASE that the store owner had kept. OMG!! it's the END OF TIME!!! Cats and Dogs LIVING TOGETHER!!! How many people who complain about this are on the list of people who say "A company can fire anyone for anything! They're a private company!!" |
This is great news!
Walmart has never spent one dollar defending the 2nd. Walmart has never spent one moment organizing RKBA supporters in order to defend the 2nd. Your local shop has, though. This is not to say that Walmart is completely uninterested in public policy/outreach. Walmart spends a great amount of time catering to the illegals, gays and every other diversity marketing initiative known to man. Gun dollars to gun folks - not some multi-national corporate powerhouse that will turn on you, their historical consumer base, and start recording your transactions in order to appease a group of socialist mayors who can't control violent crime in their respective cities. Fuck Walmart. |
Well put.
And I can "fire" them. Works both ways. Actually, I haven't been in the place since 9mm broke 10 bucks. If I want to be depressed I'll cue up "Grapes of Wrath." |
Hell will freeze over before I buy another round of ammo at Walmart or anything in their sporting goods dept. Fuck them. I spend my money at a local gun shop which supports our local economy and supports the second amendment. Owner is a former Marine who is a stand up type of guy. It is in my best interest to keep this guy in business.
I was thinking along the lines of chain gun stores. Who are the top five gun retailers in the US? |
The system Wal-Mart is implementing far exceeds just videotaping customers in the store. Did you read how the system is going to work in the other thread? The bigger issue is Wal-Mart getting in bed with Bloomberg. |
Ding ding ding. |
Well put! |
The reason I posted this is so that we could email/contact them and tell them what we think of them working with Doomberg.
This is just another step towards complete PC status for this formerly "heartland" type company. They have betrayed the very people that put them where they are today. I refuse to buy another stinking thing from them from now on. If as many people activated against chinaworld as did against Zumbo, it would be noticed. |
looks like I will just have to continue to not buy guns at walmart.
Fuck WalMart....
And is any one else hearing crickets from the ACLU camp...?? |
called and told "sham-ee-kra" that me or my family won't be shopping at walmart anymore result of their new policy. (that was probubly a little exaggerated white lie but I likes to get my point across)
Do that for sure. However, I think one way to really get their attention is to take a copy of the Mayor's press release, the news store from AP or Reuters, or the NRA and go visit the manager of your local store. Tell him or her that you won't be patronizing them anymore and politely explain why. Stuff like that gets back to Bentonville from the managers and will have a stronger impact than if we just write. Just how exactly does this violate your civil liberties |
