I remember there was a major website change and everyones member date was defaulted to Nov 2000. What was the deal with that and is there any way to know your original sign up?
Funny, every time I see a member date above 2004 I feel old but I still see quite a few Nov 2000's. Wonder how many discussion boards can say they've had so many members that long? |
I was, but I didn't come back til early 2001. I didn't realize the board was back until then.
I gotta post to see when I joined..
Is early Nov 2000 good enough? |
I was here in late 99/early 2000 with my original screen name.
I was computerless for a bit and when I returned in early 2001 it had changed. |
I originally joined here and GlockTalk at the same time, in '99, I think. Something happened at some point and the GT went to 2000, and the ARFCOM account stopped working and re registered some time later.
ETA, 2002 July I see... |
There is a secret forum for the lifers here.
I here they are linked to Scientology or Masons though. |
Ditto! |
I was around in the late 90s. Didnt get back on until after the new year.
It would be kinda cool, if, for a fee, the mods could go back and credit you with your join date and post count from the old days. |
There are more old guys around there you'd think.
But fewer than we'd like. |

lurked here in 2000, then went off to other places.. Didn't come back until 2007 when I had some issues with my AK-47..
I didn't realize how awesome this place became (^_^) |

Not everybody got "defaulted" to a Nov. 2000 date.
I joined late in Dec. 2000 and had something like 6 or 7 posts when the board crashed. It took me two or three weeks to find the beta board. I remember finding it thru 50World (I think that's what the .50 board was called then). So I have a Jan. 2001 join date. I had also been lurking for a couple years before I joined. |
+1 I started posting on the old board sometime in 1999, but didn't transition to the new board until early 2001. I don't remember exactly what the deal was - perhaps the old board was still operating, and there was a gradual shift - or I was just confused or something? |
I came over from the old board, and someone from OK took my name, ( I let them have it, so it is all good) I dont know how I ended up with my 2002 date. I do know that I have a mispelled name from day one of this board, but I never used it, and lost the Email address I had it set up under. |
Come to think of it, I think the people with the Nov. 2000 join date were the initial testers for the beta board.
Yeah, plus i think you could buy a membership and get a guarantee of your old Screename, plus back dated to nov 2000. Maybe, if I am remebering right. That far back gets cloudy these days. |
I was a member of the old board, but I was deployed overseas for a year tour and couldn't surf the web when the change over to the new board happened.
The archive shows my original account was August, 2001. But I remember coming here to the old "Blue Board".
Everyone had to sign onto the new board with a new account. There was a period of about two month when the old board stayed alive, and then the plug was pulled. That prompted a pile of January and February 2001 memberships. |
I was lost as a lurker on the old board and did not join untill march of 01
New board came online in Nov 2000 for beta testing, it was on port 8888 if I remember correctly. Some people like me jumped over and grabbed our usernames and played on it. Then in late Jan 2001 the old board crashed and the new board became the only way to play. |

I had to change my user name after one of board changes and couldn't log on with the old name. I was on the board about a year or so when that happened. My current user name started February 5, 2001.
I reregistered pretty quick on the new board with the same name as on the old
I remember this site via a link from the old AK forums, I searched on "AK AR owner forum" in the late 90's, initially signed up in '00 using my initials but when I logged back in, I couldn't. I resigned up again and the rest is ... :} |
Joined in '98 or '99 when I was between jobs under a different screen name.
^ What he said. |
Same here. "Rifleman." Or "The-Rifleman." Or something like that anyway. |
First signed up in 98 and didn't post much. Started back up in 99 and re-upped after the new board.
Didn't some folks like Eric the Hun get their old post count back when the new board went up? |
I remember Garandman was PEEVED to high heaven about ETH seemingly getting phantom post counts. (they were competing to hit 10,000 first or something) |
I joined the old board in the fall of '99 and for a while it changed to ar1511111.com and I was able to quickly transition to the current board.
Was reading the Ar15.com Page since early 1998 I cant remember when ED got the forums rolling. Its Been A long Time I Remember when ED Switched us over to this new Forum People were racing to get a low member #.
Been a gold team member on and off. Great site! Thank you AR15.com Rob877 |
Remember it took 200 posts before you lost "Junior Member" status?
That screen shot of the old board is interesting. Look at all of the Frank_the_spank posts. I wish I could forget ever clicking on his last (troll) thread. |
I lurked for a while before joining. I remember the old board, but I never posted on it.
I was here before. I had the same user name. If I remember correctly I had to re register dueb to a glch. If I remember the background was green when we first swithed over. You see almost no Dec 2000 or Jan 2001 |
I was a member from the old listserve days. Used to get my updates vial email. No idea what the date was on that.
I just didn't give enough of a shit to re-register until then. |
Thanks. I WAS going to eat breakfast. |
I joined on the old board under a username I can't even remember now. I still have the same email account.
Is there a way for site staff to search an email account and find the usernames that are registered to that account? My isp has changed though... If so, I would like to see my old username and register date. How about it GoatBoy? Is this possible? |
Same here. |
I was here for around a year before. I had often heard of the ar15 mailing list but never joined (I was on the C&R list). What really got me hooked in 2000 was reading HiramRanger's analysis of the election (both before and after when the Democrats tried to steal it).
