I dropped my Endura and damaged the tip of the knife.

I called Spyderco and they said regular sharpening is $5 for S&H, but damage to the tip is $20 plus S&H. They said to send it in along with $25 to repair the tip. I just received it back, along with my $25 check. They included a copy of the warranty and highlighted where it says to send $5 for S&H, which is right next to where it says that a damaged tip is an additonal $20.

Do I owe them $5?

Who cares, it's 5 bucks...If you really feel like asking them, I bet they'll tell you to keep the change.

Okay, I would send them $5.  In today's value, $5 is just a lunch at Mikey Dees. I've dealt with their customer service, and they are really nice people.

did they fix it?

So they told you it would be $25.
Then they sent your $25 back and said it would only be $5, but included something saying that it should be $25?

The copy of the warranty that they included says that a normal sharpening or manufacture defect is $5 for S&H. It also says that a tip repair is an additional $20. They highlighted only the part about the $5 shipping and wrote on the check "Only $5 needed"

Yes, they repaired it.

My wife dropped her Gerber once and snapped the blade in 2.  We shipped it in they sent her a new knife.  No $5, no $25, just about $3 to ship them the broken knife.

Yes, if a company treated you good, people should know about.  In today's world of corp. greed, it would be refreshing to hear good stories rather than horror stories.

sounds to me like they should have charged you 5 dollars for shipping and handling and another 20 for tip repair but since they're so cool and have such great customer service they are only going to charge you $10. 5 for S&H and $5 to repair the tip and sharpen it (a discount to you).

I would suggest that you send them a check back with a minimum of $10 or more depending on what you want to tip them and write a small note detailing what occurred and your confusion, then noting how satisfied you are with their work and they way they handled this.

As a police officer i stay poor and have very tight pockets. However when it comes to gear that i trust my life on, I only buy the best and i spoil the crap out of the people that help equip and service me as i kind of trust my life to them (my gunsmith is like the guy that works on your brakes, keep him happy). I usually tip people for their time when they let me finger fuck everything in the store and i make sure if they are good to me that i recommend everyone i know to that establishment.

I spent $180 on a whole new duty belt today and after taking up a half an hour of the salesladys time i spent another half an hour selling the most expensive sling in the store to another customer because the saleslady didnt know much about slings but still wanted to make the sale.

its a your scratch my back and ill make sure that your knife doesnt break in half when your using it against a pit bull in a fight for your life type deal!

So they fixed everything that was wrong with it, and are now asking for less money than it should cost?
They did the tip repair for free, I take it?

If so, I'd say you definitely owe them the money they're asking for.
Unless they want more money than they asked for, but it sounds like they're giving you a free $20 repair and only asking for the $5.

I'd send $5 for such good service.

Spyderco makes good stuff. I still mourn the loss of my first Endura. I dropped it in the water in the boundary waters of Northern Minnesota. I didn't even try to get it covered under warrany.

sounds like that what you thought was tip damage, and what they consider tip damage might be two different things.

Send em what they asked for, along with a thank you, and buy another Spyderco some day.

Total $25

Call them up, tell them you love their company

I only buy Spyderco Police Models(now about $100)
and, I just buy a replacement if they give me any problems

I agree with this.

In your situation, I'd send them a $10 check.

Where is this $10 figure coming from?

Me, I'd send a check for $5.  Sounds like you were treated right.

I am little confused by this as well. I believe they are saying that all I owe is $5 because the tip repair was covered under a normal sharpening.

I am sending them $5.

ok i re-read the deal as well. Apparently i got it wrong the first time and screwed everybody else up too.

Just send them $5 in a thankyou card with the order tracking number or repair number or something that they can use as a reference to your warranty work.

and tell all your friends about their company.

I still want to get me one of those spyder co wave thingies that open when you yank it out of your pocket.
