"The family is very concerned," said Frank Forchione, city prosecutor. "These acts of treating someone as an animal are intolerable."
Matthew R. George, 28, of 1205 19th St. NW, is
accused of handcuffing his wife, Mary Swihart, and putting her in a dog cage the size of a four-foot cube. Police say he also fired several shots at her feet while their 15-month-old was in an adjoining room.George faces charges of abduction, felonious assault and domestic violence.
The request for the higher bond was granted by Municipal Court Judge Richard Kubilus.
Swihart sat in the front row for George's court appearance but left without speaking to reporters.
Police said the pair had been
married less than a week before Saturday's incident.
