I bet shootings and theft percentage wise will be up this year, most then the last 10 years  for most cities.

Simple solution my friend. MOVE OUT OF THE CITY! I work in the city but live 40 minutes away in what would be considered a fairly rural area. The drive can be fairly long when the weather is bad but that is a small price to pay for not having to lock my doors or worry about crime.

Its been proven through scientific research that warmer weather brings about more crime anywhere in the world. People are move active in warmer weather, so they are more likely to break the law.

NYACK, N.Y. (CBS/AP) ― Police say two people have been injured and five people arrested after dozens fought in the streets of the Rockland County village of Nyack.

Orangetown police say fights among 40 to 50 people broke out Wednesday afternoon.

It took police officers from seven departments to finally break up the fights, which continued across Nyack for an hour.

Police say some involved in the fight were armed with knives, bats and an ax.

They say one man was stabbed and hit with a claw hammer; a second person was hit in the head with a hammer.

Both victims were treated and released from a hospital.

Police say they have arrested five people, including one of the injured, on charges including disorderly conduct, menacing, trespassing and possession of marijuana.

You are probably right. I was watching channel 6 lastnight and they said Critical... I just googled it and it came up that he was in fair condition so he probably was released. I wonder what the full story is and if it will be revealed.

EAST MOLINE -- An East Moline police officer was wounded and an armed robbery suspect killed by gunfire near 17th Street and 10th Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday. (Map)
Dead is Kelton Trice, 21, of 1005 17th St., East Moline. He died at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, in Silvis.

Police declined to identify the officer who was being treated at a local hospital. East Moline Mayor John Thodos said the officer was shot twice, but that a bullet-proof vest prevented serious injury.

"It's my understanding our officer is OK," said Mayor Thodos.

About 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, East Moline police went to the neighborhood around Mr. Trice's house to serve an arrest warrant against him, according to Rene Sandoval of the Illinois State Police. The warrant accused Mr. Trice of taking part in the April 9 armed robbery at a Gas N Dash Mart, 809 19th St. East Moline.

Mr. Sandoval provided no details on how Wednesday's shootings occurred, saying the investigation remained ongoing.

DeShawn Conwell, 16, was among the people gathered near the scene. He said he saw a man he knew as "Kelton" running down the street when a police officer shot him. He said he believed six to eight shots were fired.

He also said he did not see "Kelton" with a gun.

Emalia Sancen, a friend of Mr. Trice who lives at 428 16th Ave., East Moline, said Mr. Trice was with her and a group of other people at Watertown Memorial Park on the corner of 8th Avenue and 17th Street before the shooting. Mr. Trice, she said, did not appear to have a weapon.

Ms. Sancen said a police officer started to approach Mr. Trice as he was walking toward his grandmother's house with a friend. At that point, she said, Mr. Trice asked her to drive him to his grandmother's house, but before he could get in the car, an officer ran toward Mr. Trice. The officer attempted to restrain Mr. Trice, she said, but Mr. Trice ran down an alley.

"I drove to the alley trying to meet up with him there," she said. She added that Mr. Trice never reached her car but, instead, ran down another alley. Ms. Sancen said she then drove to the area where the shooting occurred.

Ms. Sancen said she did not see Mr. Trice get shot, but that she heard seven shots and saw Mr. Trice on the ground.

In the hours after the shooting, about nine squad cars were in the emergency room parking lot at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus. Several police officers, and people who appeared to be members of Mr. Trice's family and friends, waited for information in the hospital's emergency room.

Both groups declined to talk to a reporter.

The shootings were being investigated by the Quad Cities Public Integrity Task Force, according to Mr. Sandoval, who heads the task force. The group of local police agencies and Illinois State Police look into police-related shootings.

According to Rock Island County Court records, Mr. Trice pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated battery in May 2006, reckless discharge of a firearm in December 2005 and misdemeanor battery in May 2005.

He was charged with felony battery of a school employee in 2005, but was found not guilty. Mr. Trice also has been charged with a host of traffic offenses and several other misdemeanors.

The shootings in East Moline capped 24 hours of violence, all connected with suspects in a recent string of Quad-Cities armed robberies.

The first incident occurred about 5 p.m. Tuesday when Moline police were called to the area of 4th Avenue and 45th Street where a man was said to be walking down the street with a gun in his hand. The man fired three shots at the first police officer who arrived; one shot shattered the rear windshield of the police car.

Authorities believe Devon D. Dixon, 20, of Bettendorf, was that man and that he later pointed a gun at a second officer but didn't fire. He later was arrested without incident.

On Wednesday, police charged Mr. Dixon with committing three recent armed robberies. The first was Feb. 27 at the Burke Cleaners, 210 W. 1st St., Milan; the second was April 2 at the Subway restaurant at 2240 37th St, Moline; and the third was April 9 at a Gas N Dash Mart, 809 19th St. East Moline.

Mr. Dixon also has been charged with two counts of first-degree robbery in Scott County in relation to robberies at two Davenport hotels last month. The first was March 17 at the La Quinta Motel and the second was March 29 at the Super 8 Motel, according to the Davenport Police Department.

Also charged in the three Illinois holdups is Juan Salazar, 21, Moline. He also is in custody, although details of when and where he was arrested were not immediately available. Each man was being held on $200,000 bail Wednesday afternoon, according to the Rock Island County Jail.

The next court dates for Mr. Salazar and Mr. Dixon are set for April 22.

Authorities also were looking for two other people they believe were involved with the other suspects.

Alyssa Ramos, 20, Rock Island, was charged in a warrant with one count of armed robbery, court records state. It is believed she took part in the Subway robbery.

Bobby Edward Thompson Jr., 19, has been charged in a warrant with attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to the Rock Island County Court records. He is accused of shooting an employee of Domino's Pizza, 734 Avenue of the Cities, East Moline, in the leg with a .22-caliber pistol during a March 20 robbery. Authorities believe two robbers were involved in that crime.

(Both were reported in custody this morning (Thursday) at the Rock Island County Jail.)

On Wednesday, at the scene of the East Moline shootings, Rock Island County State's Attorney Jeff Terronez said the Domino's robbery was linked to the other crimes. He could not provide further details, however.

Police in riot gear were deployed to the neighborhood around the shooting late Wednesday.

Details of why the armored police were called to the area were not immediately available. A lot of shouting was heard from people in the area, but no physical confrontations were observed.

"It didn't have to escalate at all," said Sharayon Hopson, who lives in the neighborhood, "They (police) shouldn't be out here with a spotlight. They turned it into a big freak show."

She added that Mr. Trice was trying to enter the Army.

"He talked to a recruiter about a month and a half ago," she said. "He wasn't a saint, but he was trying to turn his life around."

An autopsy of Mr. Trice will be conducted today, according to the county coroner's office.
