No they aren't.  Economic cycles happen because at some point demand for something increases, drawing more producers into the market places.  Producer flood the market to get a share of the pie.  Soon they over produce and their becomes excesses driving demand and prices lower.

Nature of the beast.

I believe that the Media can make one worse than it would/should be by telling everyone the sky is falling and making investors shakey and people hold off to do things that they normally would of gone ahead and done.

QFT.

The media has been beating this drum hard and since 'consumer confidence' has a significant impact on the markets I seriously believe that the MSM is currently trying to push us into a recession in order to affect the election.

People all doing the same thing based on their beliefs / attitudes is NOT a conspiracy, but it has the same effect.

They can be made much worse if thats what the squawking beaks want. The last recession we had, we were technically out of it before it was even officially recognized that we were in one.

Yes.  Much of a economics is based on human expectations.  If people collectively believe that the economy will do X, Y and Z, even if there is no basis for it, they will curb their spending habits and X, Y and Z will come about.

The fact that much of the economy is tied to the stock market which is mainly based on speculation, forecast, and voodoo supports this notion.
