Am I right in assuming that most of us here Right wingers?

I wouldn't want to be saddled with such a label. It's WAY too simplistic.
After all, I'm a multi-faceted, complex person. [:D] |

I am not right wing. In fact I despise fascism. I believe in freedom and liberty. I believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I am pro- choice. I support Consitutional guarantees of free speech, free association, and the freedom to practice your relgion. I also believe that an individual has a right to privacy (obviously).
So no, I am not "right wing." That said, I do believe that the 1968 GCA should be repealed (along with the 86 ban on machine guns, the 89 AW ban, and the Criminal Bill). -SS |

wellllllllll...assuming that there are only the two choices- rt winger or lt winger, then you are probably correct in your premise.

Some are, a few are not. Some swing both ways.[;D]
I usually lean right...but am an avid environmentalist and have other "left wing" leanings. Av. |

How about us, let them own whatever the f$#k they want, and do whatever they want, and when they hurt somebody else giving them the chair.

More middle of the road.
I think that people should have the right to do whatever the flying hell they want to so long as they are not hurting anyone else. I have no right to impose my morals on someone else... and I sure the hell ain't gonna' ever accept someone elses being crammed down my throat. I also believe that I have the right to say what I want, how I want, where I want, and when I want. If I want to collect abortion blood from a clinic and splatter it on canvas to call it art... then it should be my right to do so. However, I don't expect anyone else to pay for it with their tax dollars, look at it, buy it or accept it. An it harm none, do what thou wilt. |

Jerry Pournelle wrote a monograph on the political spectrum - must be nearly 20 years ago - proving that the political landscape is not linear but is rather two dimensional.
As part of his premise was the fact that communists (as in soviets, and CHICOMS) are totalitarian and considered left, yet National Socialists (NAZI's) are considered to the right of the specturm. He reasoned that there must be another dimension to the landscape because of this. I have been looking for this essay by him since shortly after I read it, and discarded the book it was in. I love his stuff, but my wife cleans the bookshelves and throws stuff out sometimes without realizing it's importance to me - fortunately, paperback books are all I let her get away with [:)] But yes, on a one dimensional illustration of political orientation, I am a right-wing person. Whether that's above the line or below the line on the two dimensional landscape, I forget (I'm assuming above the line as being the "good" kind) |

If you can define right-wing vs. left-wing, then I can tell you where I am.

jhasz makes a good point. There are leftist aspects to naziism (national socialism) and fascism actually began on the left, tho Mussolini took it to the right. Modern democRATs who claim to be liberal are some of the biggest proponents of governmental totalitarianism around. Republicans aren't all right wingers and there is some support for socialist plans. The lines aren't very clear and appear to be redrawn from time to time.
I'm a conservative who believes in smaller government, lower taxes, more freedom, fewer laws, capitol punishment, an end to government handouts, tighter borders, and more personal responsibility, so if that makes me a right winger so be it. |

Too simplistic. Where does rational anarchist sit in the spectrum? I think I read that same monograph by Pournelle. I may still have it somewhere.

"Libertarian Republican." I'm probably like 90% Libertarian. Also very pro enviorment, as long as restrictions don't interfere with property rights. Probably a conservationist in that respect.

My beliefs are not that easy to pigeonhole.
I am pro-gun, pro-Constitution, pro-BOR, pro-military spending. I am for the decriminalization of most drugs. I think the War on Drugs has been responsible for most of the abrogation of our Constitutional rights. I am for legalizing, taxing and regulating prostitution. I am for doing away with posted speed limits and seat belt and helmet laws. I am against the outlawing of abortion: although I find the practice personally repugnant, I think jailing abortion doctors and women seeking abortions will cause more problems than it will solve. I am for doing away with many of the regulations that strangle domestic businesses, while at the same time INCREASING the load that international corporations should bear financially. They make a shitload of money by farming out their work to people in third-world countries and selling the stuff here, they should pay more taxes to make up for that, since it takes jobs out of America. They should also bear the financial cost to clean up the damage they are doing by moving their most polluting industries to nations with very lax pollution standards. I am for setting aside more wilderness land to be protected from development, BUT I think the land should be open to off-roaders and hunters. I am for getting rid of the personal income tax and replacing the money with tarriffs and sales taxes. I am against set-asides and preferences for minorities, either racial or sexual, but I am for equal treatment for all under the law, no matter what their ethnic origin, religion or sexual practice. I am against the government establishing a state religion, but I don't see any harm in letting individual towns have religious displays or prayer at football games. I am for free speech, even speech that offends or disgusts the majority. Today it's pornography they consider disgusting and you might have no problem with them arresting pornographers. Tomorrow it might be your own brand of politics they find disgusting and YOU could be the one under arrest. I am for throwing a LOT of money at research, even research that doesn't seem to be of any practical use: that is just the kind of research that usually pays the highest dividends. I am for government-sponsored space exploration and for government perks to encourage space exploitation by businesses. Our future, if we have one, is to spread off this planet. I am for agressive protection of American interests overseas, but I don't believe in "peacekeeping" missions that go places where there are no American interests (eg Somalia). I am for universal military service out of high school and mandatory JROTC classes IN high school. I don't know how you would classify what I believe. I am right wing on some issues, what might be called left wing on a few and libertarian on some. |
|
I would have to say right of center:
If you are not a violent felon you should be able to own a gun. I believe you have the right to choose even though I think abortion is wrong. government should be smaller. Pro capitalism: You should earn your own way, if you choose to belong to a union that is fine but you still better work for a living. You can belong to any religion you want to but that does not mean mine is wrong. minorities aren't. The environment should be protected not closed to everything but foot traffic. Okay that is enough for now. |
|

It depends on the target. if "I got right" then I am right wing If "I got left" then I will cover the left wing this does leave out rear security point man and team leader positions. Maybe it is best to say I am maintaining a defensive permiter. My 360 is tight and they aren't getting in.
john (if I could figure out how to put that little smile face in I would) |

Right wing, I am right handed, politics tend to piss me off. I am so pro gun, I'm not sure "I'm" legal. Pro choice, ya, you have the choice to keep the pants on. Don't kill the kid.
I am all for "you do what you want and as long as it don't hurt you, I will do what I want" Hurt me or mine and I don't dial 911, I will take care of the problem. Tell the truth, just leave me alone and I will do you the same favor. And I was an extrovert in hi School, damn, go figger. |

I am pro-freedom. I believe in personal liberty and responsibility. They go hand in hand and you cannot have one without the other.
I'm pro-choice, only because people should be allowed to make mistakes and they will ultimately pay the price for them. However, I too believe the process and using it as a primary form of birth control is barbaric and says a great deal about how civilized some people are. I believe in a minimal government with power granted to it by the people, not a government ruling over subjects. I believe that social programs should be a helping hand to get people back on their own feet again, not a way for unwed mothers and lazy people to live off the earnings of others for the rest of their lives. I believe that everyone has the potential to be the most successful person ever if they work hard enough. It worked for this poor brown skinned East Texan, so it can work for anyone. I believe that people should be taxed the same. Penalizing someone excessively for doing well is counter productive. I believe that when I die, that what I leave to my children should not be taxed, as that bastard mooch Uncle Sam already jacked me for a sizable portion of my paychecks. I believe you are neither better or worse than someone else based on the amount of pigment in your skin. I believe two or more consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want in the privacy of their own bedroom, regardless of whether I think it's wrong or not. I believe "The War on Drugs" is a war on freedom, and we have nothing tangible to show for it. I think "The War on Terrorism" is also a threat to our freedom, and calling a bill that clearly violates constitutional rights "The Patriot Act" is sinister. I believe it is the duty and responsibility of every able-bodied man and woman to be armed to defend themselves from criminals, thugs, and tyrants. I believe that if it can be carried by a soldier then I should be able to own it to defend myself. I believe a gun is no more responsible for crime than donuts for obesity or pencils for spelling errors. I believe public schools have gone so left that my children will never see the inside of one as a student. Yeah, I guess I lean pretty right these days, though I try to stay just right of center. God Bless Texas |

I don't really like the term Right Wing. That has too much of a liberal put-down tone to it. You don't ever hear them call themselves Left Wingers do you? Or more accurately, Socialists. I prefer Conservative. I believe people can take better care of themselves than the Govt. can and that as long as you aren't hurting anyone else you should be able to do pretty much whatever you want. I am Pro choice if you are referring to choosing which firearm to carry or whether to own one or not. If you mean Pro-killing of unborn or partially born babys ,then I think not. I'm actually surprised at the number of members claiming to be Pro-choice aka Pro-Abortion. It may be legal now but it certainly isn't morally right no matter how you slice it. The woman's choice ended when she chose to spread her legs. End of story.

Sounds like the conversation I had with a visiting, long-time friend.
"What are your politics, Erasmus," he asked. "I am a Christian, right-wing extremist," I replied. We discussed my politics for a while, and he concluded by remarking, "You are not a rightwing extremist, you are a liberal." I admit that I was taken aback by this piece of information. Since I do respect his opinion of me, all I can say is, "I *feel* like I am a right-wing extremist." What I am May depend on who you ask. |

I think I know why your friend called you a lefty when you *feel* like you're a righty. Liberals tend to *feel* and conservatives tend to *think*. Personally, I think some of you are overcomplicating a simple question as to which end the political spectrum gun ownership places you in. In this "either/or" situation I think it would be safe to say if you believe you have a right to own a firearm and believe this right extends to other law-abiding citizens, in the eyes of a socialist/communist/left-winger/communitarian/PRKer/Senator from Mass/Last name is Clinton/UNer then you are definitely a Right Winger vs "one of us/ Left Winger" and as such a threat to "their" egotistical vision of a perfect utopia (for "THEM"). You are pissing on the Left's pretty picture [;)].

|
The term "right wing" is imprecise.
I'm a civil libertarian. I believe government is a necessary evil that should have only very limited power and be kept as small as possible. |
|
I am a liberal in that I like to hear alternative ways to approach the problems that face our nation.
I am a conservitive in that I want a really good solution mapped out before anyone goes attempting to implement those solutions. Then I say if the solution doesn't work, admit the mistake and move on (which direction is that? Forward?) "right" and "left" wing labels are way too narrow for me. |
