My wife posts on a different site and she got into an argument and called someone a liberal. They asked for a definition of liberal. I told my wife I'd ask here for your best definitions. We know its cheating (as it wont be her definition) but it will be well used.

A liberal is someone who believes in a right to be generous with other people's money and to be moralistic without having any morals.

They believe people are not responsible for their own actions and need lots of government intervention to show them what we should be doing.
Liberals believe man is inherently bad when left on his own, without this government "guidance".
They believe we should all think alike, and anybody with a different opinion is "uncaring" and a Nazi/racist/generally evil person.    They cherish the right to free speech as long as they agree with what is being said. Anyone with a non-PC opinion must be shouted down so his vile opinions can't be heard.
They weep for Caribou displaced by oil drilling while driving their gas guzzling SUV's.
And of course as we all know,they don't believe any of us are trustworthy enough to own weapons to defend our families. That's the governments job!

I thought liberal was the new PC term for socialist.

To be a modern liberal...

1) You have to believe the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of funding.

2) You have to be against capital punishment, but for abortion on demand.

3) You have to believe that the same public school teacher who can't
teach 4th graders how to read is qualified to teach those same kids about
sex.

4) You have to believe that trial lawyers are selfless heroes and doctors
are overpaid.

5) You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans
are more of a threat than nuclear weapons in the hands of the Red Chinese (or Saddam Husein).

6) You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by
cyclical, documented changes in the Sun, and more affected by SUVs.

7) You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being gay is
natural.

8) You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments
create prosperity.

9) You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature but animal
rights activists who've never been outside Seattle do.

10) You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually
doing something to earn it.

11) You have to believe there was no art before federal funding.

12) You have to believe the military, not corrupt politicians, start wars.

13) You have to believe the free market that gives us 500+ channels can't
deliver the quality that PBS does.

14) You have to believe the NRA is bad, because it stands up for certain
parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good, because they stand up
for certain parts of the Constitution.

15) You have to believe that taxes are too low but ATM fees are too high.

16) You have to believe that Harriet Tubman, Cesar Chavez and Gloria
Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson,
General Robert E. Lee or Thomas Edison.

17) You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial
quotas and set-asides aren't.

18) You have to believe that second-hand smoke is more dangerous than HIV.

19) You have to believe Hillary Clinton is really a lady and Rosie
O'Donnell is not really a man.

20) You have to believe that conservatives are racists,  but that black
people couldn't make it without your help.

21) You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked any
where it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.

Bingo. No offense to the ladies out there, because I happen to believe the female is the pinnacle of God's creation.

However, God created woman to be a feeling, emotional creature, to balalnce off mans logical, unemotional nature. Which of course is NOT to say that there are not exceptions to this general rule.

But women are natirally susceptible to "liberalism" as it preys upon their God-given tendencies. Which of course is NOT to say that there are not exceptions to this general rule.

I'd revise that to say that liberals believe that people are inherently good, but dumb.  This is why they want to treat adults like children (and vice versa).  In their view, government must play a maternal role and provide "nurturing" and "education" to nudge (or bludgeon) people towards Utopia.  This is why the more leftist elements of liberaldom call themselves "progessive"; they don't mind that their goals are unattainable so long as the sheep are being herded in the "right" direction.

Remember we're talking about 'modern' liberals here.  Classical liberalism is quite a bit different...  More like small 'l' libertarianism, live and let live kind of attitude.

A liberal is someone who wants to tell everybody else what to do, but does not want to be told themselves. They think they know what is best for everyone else, when they don't even know what is best for themselves. Liberals are the scum of the earth.

Just tell them to read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand(I think that's how it's spelled).  The liberal AKA altruistic losers, is what it is all about and the length of the book will keep they person quiet for a while.  I am not plugging Rand but it is a good read.
