SANTEE, Calif., 1:26 p.m. EST March 5, 2001 -- Authorities are still searching a high school near San Diego -- after a shooting that has left several students injured.

A spokesman for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department says that one male suspect is in custody, and several people have been shot.
So far, there are no reports of fatalities.

Authorities say that the person in custody is apparently a student.

Sheriff's spokesman Ron Reina says that police are still making sure there aren't additional suspects inside the school.

Students have been evacuated from the school in Santee, about ten miles northeast of San Diego, and they're gathering at a nearby shopping center.

The shooting reportedly occurred at 9:22 a.m. Pacific time.

Some of the injured students could be seen talking and signaling to bystanders as they were loaded into ambulances.

A nearby resident told KOGO said that police took away a clean-cut slender Caucasian male.

A student's mother told KOGO that two of the victims were a school security officer and school counselor. KOGO said that as many as seven to 11 people were reported to have been shot.

A student named "Brad" told KOGO that he saw a student lying on the ground coughing up blood.

A student also told KOGO that he saw a white male student walk out of a bathroom firing a revolver-type gun and wearing a white shirt.
