I can't decide what to get, I know I will find a use for anything but what would bring me the most pleasure?  My price max is $800, should I do a shotgun, get a good Benelli, Baretta, Remington, etc...  Or an AR-15, AK-47, HK-91(Price extension), any other ideas, feel free to suggest anything.
Thanks

What are you gonna use it for? What are your most important considerations.

And the only Benelli you will get for less than $1000.00 is the Nova pump. You can get a good Beretta, but I prefer Remington.

The real cheap AKs are gone. You can still get one of the higher priced ones around $600.00. You can get a AR for that money but a good one such as Armalite or Bushmaster might cost you an extra $100-200. You'll never touch an HK91 for that price. However an extra $200.00 will get you a very sweet DSA Fal.

You can get a Benneli M1 super 90 for about $800. I did. It is an excellent shotgun. Now if you want a plinker and southeastern deer gun go with the AR15.

Slugs, usually 50 cents a slug.

5.56/.223 under a quarter a round

How much do you plan of shooting?

That's the main reason I bought an AR.  It was cheaper (and less painful) than shooting my Ithaca all the time.

I'd recommend an Arsenal USA ( http://www.arsenalusa.com ) SSR-85B or C — Excellent fit and finish in an AK for under $500. Plus, that left over $300 will buy a hell of a lot of ten-cent-per-round ammo and $8 magazines!

Straz, what do you want the shotgun or rifle to do?

All around shooting/SHTF/varmint/etc.?  AR 15   At a recent show I saw a NIB Oly PCR5 for $650

Home defense, especially urban or suburban?  Shotgun      I really like my Mossberb 590, take a look at the new 590A1 used by our armed forces and many police departments.  Top of the line can be had here for less than $400.

My advise:  get the best shotgun for the money your willing to spend, then save up for the AR of your dreams.  Then you'll be ready for almost anything (with a little practice :)

Pepper

i really agree with Pepper. a shotgun is essential and probably a higher priority than an AR if you can only have one. i had a mossberg 500 Persuader which i really liked for $189 from wally world. i was considering trading up to a 590A1 like we have in the Corps until i happened upon the FN Police Shotgun. this thing is a work of art and for $389 i would say its the best combat shotgun for the money. check it out. but good luck finding one!!!!

If you shop around you can get a Maverick 88 or Mossberg 500 combat shotgun for less than $200 and Bushy or Rock River AR15 for around $600 and have them both.

I agree. I think this is the best so far. You can have both. Instead of the AR, you can get the AK ($500), AK 30rd magazines ($6-$10 depending on if you want steel or polymer). Then the rest of the money can get you ammo.

For an assault rifle, be prepared to spend upwards of $4000.  For a Sport Utility Rifle such as an AR15 or a semiauto AK, the range is wide open starting at $400 and up.
