Maybe you already know this, but OPM has set up a database for retired employees who wish to return to government service to help out after the November 11th attacks.
You can put your name into the database by filling out the Federal Re-Employment Readiness Form at https://apps.opm.gov/patriots/index.cfm . I can’t get this to link properly since it uses “https” instead of “http”.
This form can also be accessed through OPM’s home page at www.opm.gov . The home page also lists a 1-888 number you can call for information.
However, I called this number and was not able to get much info. Apparently the number is set up primarily to let someone without a computer get their info keypunched into the form. It’s also for Yahoo users since Yahoo somehow interferes with the completion of the form. I was told that the jobs are 3-12 months in length, are paying, and will not mess up your annuity.
The selections on the form clearly, and unsurprisingly, indicate an interest in law enforcement retirees. There also is an interest some non-LE types, to include translators and engineers. (I’m sort of reverse engineering the “Current or Former Occupation” selections to identify who they want.)
There is a small box for “Any Other Comments”. However, if you fill it up you get a scroll button, which allows you to put additional info in.
I just submitted the form and was given an ID number slightly over 8800, which suggests this database is pretty big. I wish the heck I’d known about this sooner.
Oh well, sitting by my phone and hoping it rings!!
